Veep: Armando Iannucci HBO show

Does anyone know how this project is going and where it will be shown in the UK?

They're currently casting it and have a number of the major characters but they haven't announced a date for the shooting of the pilot yet .

Assuming it is picked up by HBO then it would be shown on the new Sky channel SKY Atlantic

Sigh well I guess if it is picked up I'll have to choose between watching it or having morals.

How does the Sky/HBO deal affect programmes like Extras? joint HBO/BBC venture?

Beeb would get to show it if BBC America or BBC Worldwide were involved in the production I think, get the feeling this is a full HBO job!

Yup, while it has Anna Chlumsky who was also in In The Loop with The Thick Of It characters, this is not a BBC affiliated production even though Ianucci writes both series for both network respectively.

US Pace thread is here: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1654784 (may contain spoilers)

The general consensus seems to be that there's a gem of a good show in there somewhere but it needs to significant reworking.

I like julia louis-dreyfus so have recorded it to see what its like. HDPQ looks dire on atlantic HD, hope that not a bad omen for the show quality.

Looks great but just isn't funny. Cast mumble their way through the show so had to wack up the TV volume. So wish I could say something positive about it.

I watched this last night, and for the first 10 minutes I was thinking that this isn't funny at all, but by the end I thought it was hilarious. One of the funniest things I've seen for ages.

Yes, it's not a million miles from "Thick of It" with similar characters, but I loved it, but just give it time as it did have a slow start to the episode.

Funny and very clever .... will watch it "live" then watch the recording (probably with subtitles) to get over the mumbling problem and spot the Thick of It-style satire. THEN, probably read the recaps and forums stateside to get up to speed with the American humour. All that before mildly perving over Julia whom I've been madly in love with for about 25 years.

Watched it and didn't find it remotely amusing at all. But then I've never really gotten on with those sort of 'fly on the wall' type shows.

It seems like a poor cousin of it's UK counterpart.

I enjoy the majority of HBO's output

I am an Armando Iannucci fan

I soak up any US political series

.....this was awful, deleted from planner after a single episode

It gets better as is goes on. Not great, but watchable with some good moments.

I enjoyed it, found it very promising and looking forward to the rest of the series. Interesting to see the characters develop as the series progresses

You should at least give it 2 or 3 episodes. While it's not as good as The Thick of It or In The Loop, it does find it's feet as the season develops.

Really...I may give it a wee bit longer then but that premiere left me cold

Thought the first episode was good, it felt like a spin off from 'In The Loop' (especially since Anna Chlumsky seemed to be playing a very similar role). the last scene where the VP said "...i need a shit!" at the worst possible time had me in stitches

Apparently it takes until episode four to find its feet.

I wonder if they originally wanted to cast Tina Fey in the lead role but she was tied up filming 30 Rock.

Glad to see that the bad language is not being edited out.
I can state that I have never been Pencil F*cked.

It's a marmite show. Personally I think it's incredibly intelligent and witty. Obviously that's not going to appeal to everyone, particularly if they have no interest in US politics or being intelligent.

Always handy to follow US politics - gives you a headsup who we'll be at war with next.

There used to be that thing about the Yanks not understanding irony, something which was a hallmark of UK comedy. I don't think that's the case anymore. The best, most ironic comedy is coming out of the US now with shows like Veep, Girls and Louis CK being low-key masterpieces. The lack of a laughter track and people slipping in vomit may be confusing some people.
