Humax HDR non freesat mode HD recording

Hi

If I record HD material in non-freesat mode it still appears as "ENC".

I thought it was bbc only with encrypt, or has that all changed?

Is it part of the freesat spec to encrypt all hd or is it a humax thing?

Assuming you have a Foxsat-hdr you need to reboot the box after switching to non-freesat mode.

yep a Foxsat-hdr.

I switched to non-freesat mode powered off, but the timer was on, assumed for sheduled recording, then turned off at rear of unit, back on, booted back into freesat mode, went to non-freesat mode made a recording, and still "ENC".

Do have to have no timed recordings in the shedule to achieve what im trying to do?

You don't have to power off the box. You can't record Freesat and non-freesat at the same time. Provided the freesat recordings are not active during the period you are using non-freesat there's no problem.

Switch to non-freesat, press the remote sby button, when in sby press the remote power on button. Tune to a HD channel and press the record button. If you want to extend the recording press the record button a 2nd time.

In non-freesat mode can you just take the BBC HD recordings straight off the humax box onto your PC eg to burn to blu ray?

Yes but you don't need to be in non-freesat mode to transfer the recordings. They just have to have been recorded in non-freesat as described above and renamed to get rid of some odd non standard characters.

Transfer by USB requires a HDD formatted EXT3 for most HD recordings to get over the FAT32 4GB file size limit.

Installing the custom firmware allows recordings to be directly copied across a network to a PC and will also remove the above characters in the names.

What if you're doing timer set recordings though, does that need to be in non freesat mode to be able to get them off the box?

You can't get into non-freesat mode while a Freesat recording is active. The method you used to make the recording doesn't matter. The recordings are in the video partition so available for copying in Freesat mode.
