Maybe the Olympics ceremony wanted to showcase the music rather than the amount of cash generated. I'm not a fan of either group but there is no doubt that the Sugababes had a much better songwriting team behind them.

The best-selling girl group in the history of recorded music.

The most commercially successful British act since the Beatles.

The biggest pop group on the globe (between 1996-1999)

The biggest pop cultural icons of the 1990's.



Victoria isn't the top of her 'field'
aka the 'biggest fashion designer in the world'..... yet.

She's much more famous than the other individual Spice Girls at the moment but she's a long way off being more famous than The Spice Girls collective at their peak.

Like it or not - the Spice Girls are the most globally known British act of the 90's... Their omission from a timeline of British pop culture is just weird.

It's like going through the 60's and not playing a Beatles or Stones song.
The 70's and not playing an Elton song (another glaring Danny Boyle omission!)

As for being manufactured...

Do some research. It's such an old, lazy misconception.

The Sex Pistols were far more 'manufactured' than the Spice Girls and had far less control.
Anyone who knows the story of how the Spice Girls came about and ultimately gained control of the group can tell you - these girls were no puppets!

I don't see it as the Spice Girls being beneath Victoria, she might just enjoy the company of the others? I know not many people believe she is human but getting together with a group of girls she has known since her teen years would just be like any one of us going to a school reunion and meeting up with friends from the past.
