Spanish plan DTT shake-up - HD only on DTT.

As part of the clearing of the 800MHz band in Spain, all channels will be forced to broadcast in HD only - writes .Broadbandtvnews.

The article also says
Quote:
Broadcasters will be told to broadcast only in the HD format, while others will lose the opportunity altogether,
reading around, I think the smaller channels will be shunted together on a reduced number of multiplexes and thus will not be able to go HD or have any capacity to sublet, whilst the larger broadcasters will have to go HD only, but squashed together. Not sure if DVB-T2 should be used here?

I didn't comment and hoped for others to come forward with info.
But the line "forcing consumers to again upgrade their receivers if they wish to continue their viewing uninterrupted." could mean a requirement for DVB-T2.

One seach for "HD ready" wil tell you that this branding ONLY relates to the display and signal feed via the HDMI input.

When what happens in your location - is unknown. You may need a new STB, when the change happens.

Lars

PS! "HD Ready" is a branding and not English words. It was created outside the UK.

My Sony is HD Ready --- meaning it has 3 HDMI inputs BUT -it doesn't have a HD tuner so no terrestrial HD apart from a set top box.
I knew this when I bought it so don't start .........
