Advise me on a new laptop please.

Since I no longer take my laptop on my travels, I'd like one for sofa use with a bigger screen than the 13.3" Vaio I currently have.

Use - mainly surfing, very light gaming, photo editing. I suppose the hardest work it will have to do is the odd spot of video editing. No BluRay drive required.

Size-wise about 15-16" and I want an HD screen.

I don't want a Mac, the new laptop will have W8 I suppose (I tried Linux a while ago - it's not for me).

I've had nothing but Vaios since they started making them but after recent support problems, I won't be buying another.

Budget - Nothing fixed but ideally within £750 or so.

HD screen?

1366 x768 ones are too often referred to as HD.

I should have been clearer, I want something akin to 1920x1080.

My current laptop (which is really a business model) has 1366x768 and is much poorer looking than my OH's older Vaio with a 1600x900 panel.

One thing to bear in mind is that because of the blank space on much web viewing some will choose to set a HD laptop down towards 1366X768 resolution.
Dells can be configured with a HD screen as can Lenovo laptops.

Your other dilemma is that for sofa use, a simple laptop such as the £300 Samsung RV515 should run much cooler.

I'll be OK - I have asbestos legs.

And I find web viewing OK at 1600x900 too.

1366x768 is an HD screen. In fact so are are any screens above 1280x720.

Don't most browsers allow you to zoom? Why would there be blank space?

I've had a bit of a look around, this seems OK.

Looks nice. If you're happy with the laptop I'd shop around to see if you can get the same spec cheaper elsewhere.
