Billie Piper to attend her first convention in the UK this November

http://www.combom.co.uk/2012/06/bill...to-attend.html

Billie Piper is to make her very first convention appearance later this year in the UK. The actress is to attend 'Midnight',an event taking place over three days at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole from Nov 30, 2012.

Midnight is being organised by Starfury who staged The 11th Hour convention which saw Doctor Who stars such as Matt Smith, Mark Sheppard, Frances Barber, Neve McIntosh and many more entertain the fans last weekend.

£90 to get in and then presumably the autographs are another £20/£30?

What recession?

Yeah what recession? I'll go if I've got a job by then.

It's not a surprise Starfury are doing another Doctor Who con this year after the success of 11th Hour. It was a amazing weekend and one of the biggest they've ever run in terms of number of attendees.

I've booked for Midnight already on the strength of the first three guests that have been announced. I'm not a massive Torchwood fan but I've heard that both Kai Owen and Gareth David Lloyd are amazing guests.

It's £90 for a regular ticket and that includes 1 autograph per guest. If you want any additional autographs, they're usually £10 each. (I thought they would have charged more for Matt Smith, but nope, he was same price as all the other guests. Although they did charge more for Matt's photo session.)

The number of people at 11th Hour and the amount they were spending on photos and autographs, you definitely wouldn't think there was a recession. And Midnight is looking to be the same as apparently Gold tickets are already selling fast.

"Listen, TEDR, we need to talk about business. The problem is that we're just not making any money."
"I don't know what you're talking about — I'm making more money than ever!"
"Ummm, yes, that's kind of what we wanted to talk to you about..."

On second thoughts I'm not going incase that loopy campaign group turn up.

The recession has hit the DW industry a bit. Smaller conventions/signings are struggling a little (I have heard from a number of sources); I was "mind" guests at the NEC Memorabilia events, and footfall has been less of late. Also,t he guests note that their takings are down.

These mega-conventions, with top-drawer guests like Matt Smith and Billie Piper, are the ones that will make big money because they have huge star-names. Smaller events featuring "third Cyberman on the left from 1968" are having to rethink how they operate.

David Tennant is now confirmed to be attending Midnight.

Billie Piper and David Tennant at the same convention? So very glad I've got my ticket for this already, as pretty sure it's gonna sell out fairly quickly. Really can't wait for this.

Thought they must have secured a major guest when they announced that they had changed the dates to the 14th -16th December 2012, but really didn't think Starfury would have been able to get David. Very happy about this.

OMG..... Lets offer David Tennant our commiserations for having to share the bill with some amateur ham of a charv.

Not this rubbish again. First of all, it's chav, not charv and secondly, you are aware of the fact that David and Billie are friends, right?

It's a great coup and I assume if you're a massive 10/Rose fan, it's an even bigger coup for you. Overall, it should be fun for those who are going to this.

Billie is about as far from a chav as you can get! People think too much of the Rose character...

I'm glad she's taken this long before doing a convention cause it makes it that much more special, and also saved her from being there when a lot of people were hating on Rose!! I'm sure everyone is now capable of being adult enough to look back with respect and fondness for the character.

Of course, I far preferred her series with Eccleston than her time with Tennant. It didn't help that they were written like a couple of giggling kids for much of series 2...

Do these type of events 'sell out' as such or are they usually available until nearer the team?

Even Rose wasn't a chav, except to snobs who think all working-class people are chavs.

Depends on the event, and ticket type you want.

The gold tickets for the Matt Smith convention by this company sold out, but standard tickets were still available

As rionia said, Gold Tickets are limited in number, and for this I would imagine will sell fairly quickly as they're really popular. At 11th Hour, half the tickets sold were Gold tickets.

I'm not sure what the number of Regular tickets is capped at tbh and I think it has been a while since a Starfury Event actually sold out, but then they have also said they haven't been this busy processing bookings since they had Jennifer Beals at one of their L Word conventions.

And obviously, the later you leave it the higher the ticket number you get.

I really want to go to this, but I'm holding out till they announce more guests. If they announce Freema Agyeman, I'm there baby!

I always go Gold now. I think it's worth it for the meet & greet alone. But bear in mind for this con that David and Billie won't be at the meet and greet as they are only attending the convention on the Sunday.

Gold also get better seating at the guest talks and opening/closing ceremony. And also go through for autographs first so you're pretty much guaranteed to get everybody's.

It really depends on the reason you're going to the con. If for example, you were only interested in getting photos taken with the guests, or socializing with fellow fans, then the Gold ticket wouldn't give you any advantage over the regular.

Starfury have said that there won't be any more Torchwood guests added to the lineup unfortunately. I was hoping for Dichen Lachman myself. She was by far the best guest at Inva2ion.

Sean has also said not to expect any more main cast guests. I think he said he was looking at having at least 12 guests in total. So we've got six announced so far, I reckon the other 6 will all have only played minor roles on the show. But sometimes the smaller guests end up being the highlight of the con anyway, like Neve McIntosh was at 11th Hour.

Actually it is charv, depending on what part of the country you are in.

Having said that i really do agree with your underlying sentiment here.

It is great she will be going to the convention, not my favourite companion but an integral part of the show for a few years.

I actually didn't know that. I just thought the person beforehand spelled the word wrong. Thanks for that.

If I lived in the Uk and had the money and time, I'd definitely like to go too.

I live in the UK and have the time, but not the money or confidence unfortunately. They seem to be doing them as a regular thing so I'll go when I find work though
