I prefer script editors and producers who have some respect for what came before them. I know Moffat is open about his love/hate for Doctor Who and has been very critical of the 1960s, but at least he also honours the past and acknowledges the stuff he thinks was good.

Back to K9, I do feel a little sorry for John Leeson, that he didn't get a decent appearance in The Five Doctors. I can imagine him meeting the First Doctor and the Doctor saying "What is that silly little creature?"
Yeah, Logopolis and Castrovalva are some of my fave stories but I always disagreed with a few of the things he said in those documentaries and his hatred of K9 was one of them.

I also wish John Leeson had voiced K9 in Season 17 as these were my fave stories to feature him but he wasn't there....

Can we stop it with the 'affirmative' and 'yes Mistress' stuff, are you trying to annoy me

I was trying to kill off K9 in the "Five Word Thingy" thread, but he proved invincible in the end, and kept coming back, so I gave up. I didn't think of a car crusher, though. I'll remember that one.

Sorry, K9fan, it wasn't because I don't like K9, it was just for dramatic interest.

He had a lot of time for Lis Sladen and for Sarah Jane.

K9 was ok to be honest. I was pleased when they wrote him out now and again though!
What annoyed me was the f****** sonic screwdriver!! That's lasted forever!!

I don't dislike K9 as strongly as others here, but I definitely don't like him.

K9 was one of those delightfully clueless things about the show that I find so endearing. Sort of like the whole JNT era.

I didn't mind him.

More useful than Kamelion was.

I don't mind K9 to be honest. At least they tried to give him a bit of personality, unlike Kamelion.

I am interested in what you say about Moffat's love/hate as I am on the rewatch and seeing the very early stuff for the first time. Where/ what did he say ?

I agree with Kim Newman on K-9 at 6:24

The introduction of K-9 was the beginning of the decline of the Tom Baker years IMHO, from the brilliance and drama of the Hinchcliffe years to the jokey clunkiness of the Graham Williams era. I just don't think K-9 enhanced the programme at all. It made it more childish - and that's without even getting to its well documented physical "limations".

JNT gets a lot of stick, but he also made some great decisions, and getting rid of K-9 was one of them.

Very true. I think his attitude towards other cast members was problematic later in his tenure.

Not a K-9 Fan myself but he doesn't really bother me either to be honest.

I could take or leave him.
