I liked him in 'Class' but I cannot say I took to him in anything else.

Yep me too - I had a crush on him then. He's really good at facial expressions.

Wonder if he just had a poor agent or just made poor choices?

Last clip I saw of him was in some gangster film....didn't think it suited him at all, i.e.his voice is not deep enough.

Sad really.....

I think he had one of the those soft looking, baby faces that's hard to take seriously.

I think he's still worked consistently over the years. Wasn't he in thar Stephen King show set in a hospital a few years back? Apparently that was good.

Indeed, world domination isn't everybody's wish (unlike Tom Criuse).

It's always assumed that if an actor doesn't appear on the local multiplex every week, then they are a failure.

Cruise got a better string of good movies as lead actor. Risky Business was a huge hit. He did Legend - decent fantasy, didn't make much money. Then got the role in moderately budgeted Top Gun, daft but a massive success for some reason. Color of Money was excellent. Cocktail was another financial success, probably helped by his exposure on TG. Rain Man and Born on the Forth of July were not only critically acclaimed but also major box office hits.

This was before Scientology and three divorces. Had the look and physique, gleaming smile, came across as very friendly in interviews, and clean living. Perfect for 80's PR really.
