Hotel Hell (Gordon Ramsay goes into hotel inspecting)

Just when you thought Fox had milked the Ramsay brand for all they could get..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znW6lxhPWJU

When I first saw that I thought it was an elaborate advert for the new series of Hells Kitchen, giving the impression he had quit the kitchen and was going into hotels.. and then a "You didn't really think Gordon would leave the kitchen, did you?!" twist at the end with him shouting at people.

But it appears to be a genuine show!!! Alex Polizzi he ain't. Bizarre.

He'd be better able to keep his MIchelin stars if he actually did some cooking in his own restaurants once in a while.

He's kept most of them. He still has one of only 4 3* restaurants in Britain.

Anyone been watching the first couple of episodes of this show?

I've seen the two part premiere so far and it's extremely similar to Kitchen Nightmares USA but with the added bonus of a hotel thrown in.

Will watch a few more episodes before making a proper judgement.

I've been watching at US pace and agree that it is extremely similar to Kitchen Nightmares. It always mystifies me how the owner(s) go from completely confrontational to praising GR to the skies seemingly over night.

Does GR have experience in running hotels? I can understand him helping restaurants but hotels?

Its on FOX in the US. I don't think a UK channel has picked it up yet, but it will probably be Channel 4.

Don't really see any connection between the two myself.

Isn't it just a US version of The Hotel Inspector that is shown on Channel 5?

GR tweeted a little while ago today that it's coming soon on Channel 4

Ah, I was wondering whether to go looking for it elsewhere, but I'll wait and give it a go on C4.

I didn't keep to my own decision, and found it online. I like it actually. He still focuses a fair bit on the food aspect, but he also looks at decor, cleanliness, customer service etc as Alex Polizzi would in Hotel Inspector.

What I thought was interesting about it was that they seem to have found some different problems than we have seen of late on the Ch5 equivalent. They are looking mainly so far to luxury hotels that are virtually empty.

I have to say, that so far the owners have been

Is it overly dramatic like Kitchen Nightmares? Don't get me wrong, I like that show, but they over-do it somewhat.

Well, so far there has been some kitchen nightmares style ranting, but I have found it far more deserved than it is in Kitchen Nightmares.

An owner who fails to pay his staff but spends thousands on antiques for eg. I wanted to launch a few f words at him myself on more than one occasion during the hour!
