Huawei Ascend G300 - Possible Hardware or Network Fault
Hi,
I purchased a Huawie Ascend G300 the other day which is a fantastic phone for the money! However I had to return it due to a major fault, and that fault was that it would NOT receive calls to it on many occasions...you could call the phone one minute and it would ring ok, but call it again a few minutes later and all you heard was "the number you have called is not recognised" or "the users phone is switch off". I tried calling it with both a landline and mobile phone. When I took the phone back to the shop the assistant bought out another brand new Huawie Ascend G300 in a sealed box, he installed my SIM in it and that phone suffered exactly the same problem, so we assumed the SIM was faulty. We tried another SIM in both Huawie Ascend G300's and both phones still would not accept ALL calls, only ocasionally which had us both very puzzled! Another problem I experienced with the Huawie Ascend G300 on one occasion was that it would not stop ringing when I called it with a landline phone, even though I had ENDED the call! The phone also locked up the screen so the only way I could stop it ringing was by holding in the power button and turning it off. The problems may be due to the Vodafone network, but I called them and they checked everything out including my phone and SIM details and they said everything was ok. Has anyone else got a Huawie Ascend G300 and experience similar problems? I really wanted this phone but just couldn't trust it, I may attempt buying it again in a few months though in case it was a bad batch of phones. Cheers! |

Interestingly because I've not set up the device from scratch, it was Vodafone who I updated the firmware! As I've not had a problem or read about any similar problems, it would suggest a problem with your sim card or the Vodafone network. If you can, may be worth trying your sim card out in a totally different phone. If the problem still continues after that then I do not see how Vodafone can say there isn't a problem that isn't phone related. Well they can but surely the evidence would suggest otherwise. |

I purchased ANOTHER Huawei Ascend G300 today and put my SIM in it from my first G300 and guess what....it had the same problem and the first few calls made to it from a landline and Tesco mobile would not get through! Anyway, I had my old Samsung M150 unlocked today so tried the Vodafone SIM in that and that wouldn't receive the first call either, so I kept swapping the Vodafone SIM back and forth between the G300 and M150 and some calls did eventually get through, so again I'm totally puzzled to what is going on. As 3 G300's have been tested now (2 mine and 1 in the store) with 2 different Vodafone SIMs (1 mine, 1 stores) and all 3 G300's had trouble receiving calls its quite possible its the rubbish Vodafone network as the G300 seems too well made too have such faults. As soon as I've used up my credit with Vodafone I'm giving them the BOOT and getting my G300 unlocked!!!! Channging the subject......at the top left of the screen on the G300 I sometimes see an icon that looks like a white square with a blue and green arrow inside (up & down) and a gear/cog on the corner, do you know what that icon is as its not in the manual? There's also another icon I dont understand, its a grey suitcase with a pointing down arrow inside, thats not in the manual either! Cheers! |

I've had no problem with my G300 on Vodafone or since they unlocked it for me to use on giffgaff. It's a really good phone for the price. |

Do you know anything about the TalkMobile PAYG SIM shown on Carphone warehouse? It offers VERY low call charges compared to the other networks, for example a call to the same network is just 4p or 8p to others! Its only 25p per day for upto 25Mb of web browsing too! All sounds too good, so there must be a catch somewhere? Cheers! |
