Recommend me a film!

With bloody football taking up all of prime time on Sunday night on both ITV and BBC, what is a good film to watch instead.

Anything interesting but:
No action films without a plot or reason for being apart from shooting things and/or blowing them up.
No Rom Coms.

Apocalypto is a great and quite different film.

Can I recommend 'The Kids Are Alright'. Saw it last night and really really enjoyed it.

For something a little different, why not "Leaves of Grass". Edward Norton plays twins, and does a mighty fine job of it too

If you're a fan of comedy (non-rom com): The Hangover Part II (or, if you haven't seen it, the first part). or Due Date.

The original and best version of The Italian Job with Sir Michael Caine can't go wrong with this one.

If you don't mind foreign language films then

The Vanishing (1988 original dutch film, not the American remake)

Lift to The Scaffold 1958 (french)

lawrence of arabia. typical lean. huge sweeping vistas. great acting. turgid plot.

or same director but passage to india instead. this ALSO has alec guiness "blacked up" tasteless and a real hoot.
