Should soaps limit their spoilers?

With the recent shock death of poor Linsey from HO one of the best ever kept soap exits been top of converstations. it made me think should soaps try harder to keep soap secrets?

When Danielle died in EE I had no idea and I didn't know Bradley was going to die either and I have to say they were some of the most impacted episodes i'd seen.

So should soaps keep more spoliers to make tv viewing more exciting?

The spoiler regarding Bradley's death was released by The Sun before the live episode - so several did know about it. As for spoilers in general though, the fact remains the same; if people don't want to know, don't read spoilers. As a spoiler-reader I don't fancy knowing less information in advance.

I don't mind hints about storylines but I think all spoilers about actor/character departures/arrivals should be canned altogether. They really don't serve any purpose beyond attempting to draw viewers in, but word of mouth did that back in the 80s and the ratings were sky high. Nothing can replicate the shock of a character being dead when there were no spoilers about it.

I think the main problem these days is that spoilers aren't just hints or teasers anymore but quite often reveal pretty much everything that's going to happen. I don't usually mind spoilers myself but there have been times when I've thought something would have had a much greater impact had it not be revealed in advance.

I'm not too bothered spoilers are not a huge reveler but I think its brilliant when they can keep in unwrapped like Lyndsey exit.

You'd have to do away with the entire tv magazine industry first

And that's not gonna happen unless people stop buying them.

Another brilliant HO one was the climax of the Evil Clare saga - they leaked that Max died.

He didn't (that time) and it was a real "WTF?" moment, but in a very good way.

It's sometimes nice to to have a clue what's going to happen. For example in Hollyoaks on Friday when Lynsey died no one knew it was going to happen so it was a massive shock. I wish more soaps could do that.

I don't think spoilers should be limited or canned. No-one forces people to read them so if people don't like them, just don't read them.

This does annoy me. There'll be a great storyline coming up, and then about a week before it all kicks off you find out that the person has just had their contract renewed. Once I know there's no chance of them leaving, it's just not the same. Nobody is in mortal danger. They could be dangling off the top of the Queen Vic screaming "Help me, Superman! Help me!" and it wouldn't matter: they're not going to die and do another year's stint as a ghost. They're clearly going to survive.

For me, no, spoilers are good. It is a way to avoid wasting time on episodes and characters I am not interested in and even some episodes I don't need to watch because I know what will be in it. So they can be a time saver.

I think they should have spoilers for the people who want to know but its really annoying when your just reading a newspaper online and it has spoilers about TV without warning if you want to avoid spoilers you have to stay clear of the internet!
