Haven't read every post, so it's likely been mentioned, but their appears to be less match screens in the red button this year, so less choice of match.

General commentary seems to be of the same standard, but sometimes it's all mens matches on the choice, which is frustrating.

Agree! There are people with much worse problems in the country. I'm sure they'd love to only have to miss a programme that's on all year around!

People moaning about the tennis should open their minds. I never liked tennis until the 2008 Federer Nadal final and now I'm hooked. I now watch every grand slam. Loved the last three nights tennis!

Been watching a lot more online this year as that's often the only place to find some courts.

The women's matches tend to be put on early so by late afternoon it's only a choice of men's matches.

And those few that don't want to watch it can go to hell, because they have no right wanting to watch something else on the BBC that their LF has helped pay for.
Wimbledon is on two channels for a short period in the early afternoon (when most people are at work during the week anyway). In the evening, it's only on one of the BBC's four entertainment channels, never mind all of the other channels on all platforms.

There was some mixed doubles on the red button on cable (and presumably $ky) yesterday afternoon, but on Freeview there's now only one extra stream rather than two. Unfortunately, if the BBC carry out their threatened plans, after the olympics the red button options on cable/satellite will be the same as on Freeview

Is that BBC Online? Not really looked.

The womens matches early would explain why I don't get to see them unless on BBC TV.

A bit off topic, but are they allowed to close the roof between matches, as it was obvious that the Murray match wouldn't finish with only natural light.

They are allowed to close it whenever they like, but they want to keep it open as long as possible.

Probably because they were all waiting for Secret Fortune, Casualty or Mrs Brown's Boys...

It's not an indoor tournament so they will always try to play it with the roof open. It's only if it starts to rain or it gets too dark that they will shut it. If it clears up they will open it after the current match ends unless there is a significant chance of more rain

And you might or might not be aware that, apart from true event TV such as Royal Weddings, Football Finals etc, 8 million is considered to be a very good figure. Even the likes of X Factor and BGT can get 11 or 12 million (meaning that maybe 48 million did not watch). And they are considered excellent figures in this multi-channel, digital age, when people are doing and watching many other things.

So I can't quite see your point.

The ridiculous blanket coverage of Wimbledon every year really gets on my tits. The BBC should realise that not everyone really gives a tuppeny one about tennis and yet they mention it on every other program both TV and radio.
They must have known the miserable sweaty would be on last night so why on earth did they schedule two new series to start.

"Blanket coverage" is complete BS. As I said before, it's on one out of four channels most of the time (with a small overlap in the afternoon).

This thread has gone the way of so many other threads in that non-sports fans come on and show their intolerance (i.e. I am missing my favourite program because of some football/tennis/(substitute some sport) match. Sports fans in general accept that there are programs they do not like but are liked by others. Maybe these non-sports fans should adopt the sporting ethos of tolerance.

My point is a minority of the British public watched the tennis. With this in mind the tennis should have been switched to the minority BBC2 channel and BBC1 left as programmed. Anyone interested could have switched channels. Live tennis and tennis highlights were already scheduled for BBC2 from 6.10pm to 9.00pm. The only programme that would have been affected was "The Hollow Crown", the first of four Shakespeare adaptations. I doubt people were coming home from the pub to watch that.

It was done to make viewing figures for the main channel look good.

Because it is impossible to predict when a live tennis match is going to end.

For football and other time limited sports you know that a match usually lasts for a hour and a half or two hours and 15 minute with extra time and penalties so you can schedule things around

This event is only on for two weeks a year so if you and other people don't like it then you really should get out a bit more.

What are you going to do when the Olympics start?

And likewise did a minority of the public watch BGT or X Factor.

And the Casualty ratings for example on BBC one rarely go above 5.5 million (as do many other BBC one Saturday evening programmes these days), somewhat less than your minority interest tennis which has now been switched to your self-styled minority interest channel BBC Two.

Time that you had a reality check I think.

A spectacular missing of the point, especially with respect to PSB (which is exactly what the BBC should be doing), and with respect to ratings (which, as you seem to be saying, the BBC should not be chasing).

Anything that is on non stop from midday until almost midnight is blanket coverage.
BBC is turning into just a channel for the middle class, illustrated perfectly last night when the first item after tennis was an advert for the proms.

So who should they aim for down the middle then? The Lower Classes?

So in your world, only the middle class (whatever group that covers these days) enjoys tennis and the Proms. If so, I suggest that you make more regular and prolonged contact with the real world!

Oh blimey! A Jarrow march on this forum. Citizen Smith hasn't been on for many years.

Same here, normal saturday night viewing is either iplayer or dvd, never live tv. Made a nice change to have some proper family viewing for once (synchronised cheering in our house)

On ONE out of FOUR BBC channels and 50+ other channels. What is the problem?
