Holiday Question - CORFU!

Going there soon on a selt catering holiday for 7 nights.

Would 300Euro be enough for the week? We arent going clubbing or patying like we are 20, just a relaxing holiday!

If you could live over here for the same amount of money you will be fine on that. The costs are very similar. Have a great holiday

If that's all your doing and are eating in all the time then yeah it should be enough.

Yes, 300 should be fine, I went to Corfu about 10 years ago, Acharavi, it was great then, probably just the same now, it's a lovely place, the people are so friendly and chilled out, I expect they won't be affected there as much as they are on the mainland with the downturn, they lead quite simple easy chilled out lives, the weather is great, not too hot being a little island, have a good one, ENJOY.

Not really. I'd say Corfu was a lot cheaper.

I think it's slightly cheaper, but not a lot. Wine is cheaper so if that's your primary purchase then maybe

It depends if you are making your own food, because their main supermarkets seem to be Lidl only nicer than ours and small grocers obviously.

Nisakki/Agni is the nicest part imo.

In Corfu I can sit at a restaurant on the beach and eat a main course for £7. Try doing that in Britain.

I suppose it depends where you are staying and what you are buying. The supermarkets in the tourist areas have very similar costs to ours. My brother and his girlfriend have a small one in Sidari so I have a bit of a comparison through them.

Though as Glowbot says, the wine can be cheaper

Burgerking at Weston Super Mare £3

Yeah you can do that here it depends what you are having.
I think it's definitely cheaper than it's worth, because it's so delicious and the place is beautiful.
Dinner out for me there usually costs £12-13, and I've noticed it's going up. Also that the "till is broken" so the taxman never hears about it.
Pay with cash usually.

We went to Rhodes as a family of three and struggled to get by on £1000 spending money for the week. Greek prices are laughable. Bring back the drachma

We were in Kefalonia a few weeks ago and we did notice prices have gone up this year. We spent £900 in a week for 2 adults and a child. That was for lunch and dinner out every day plus soft drinks and we did hire a car for a day as well. We're not big drinkers though so if you'll be have more than 3 or 4 a night than you might struggle on £360.

Have you still got to put toilet paper in a bin after you have used it, or have they sorted their plumbing out now?

What resort are you staying in OP? When we went to Corfu we hired a car and got so much more out of our stay by doing that. Corfu Town is beautiful and well worth visiting, and there is a terrific beachside restaurant called the Agni Taverna which is unaccessable unless you have a car.

Not with the current exchange rate.

Someone I work with is just back from Kefalonia (another one of the Ionian islands) and said that most things food / groceries is the same as you pay here.

Local beer and wine is marginally cheaper but on the whole holidays in the Euro zone are not cheap at the moment

Even in central London, most half decent restaraunts will have a main course for £7

OP - we were last away in September and spent a shed load in a week. Even having breakfast and lunch in our apartment, we'd still average at the very least €100 a day - that was bits and bobs throughout the day, an evening meal with a drink or two each and maybe a few drinks in a bar on the way home! I'd say we spent about €900 between 2 of us all in...

You can do things much more cheaply of course - having your evening meal in your apartment every other night will keep your costs down. Also shop wisely for food, maybe go to a local supermarket as opposed to the Spa shops that are geared towards tourists.

Have a nice holiday!

I disagree with that. I've been to Corfu before when it's been 40+c. I'm due to go again in 1 week and have been watching the temp lately and it's always been around the mid to high 30's. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/6299495

It depends where you go. Even locally on Corfu, things can be very different.

I've had a 3 course (special) meal in the hotel we stay in for about £10. I can hand on heart say, it is the best food I've ever tasted and with a view like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/28612745@N05/2927773794/ it's just something you can't get back home.

I know what you mean by the Agni Taverna. Don't know much about it though, but I don't get the unaccessable unless you have a car bit.

I would love to know where this restaurant is that is the same price as Corfu.

You are joking surely? You could live like a king on £140 a day.
