I think the majority of the reviews were complaining that it was on FX, and the majority of the reviewers seemed to hate Charlie Sheen. It wasn't exactly Community standard (I don't think anyone expected it to be), but it was certainly better than the mediocre reviews it's received.

basically, I'm willing to bet the reviews would be a lot more positive if he hadn't worked on TAAHM...

That's not entirely what they mean. The idea is that if the first 10 episodes are successful 90 more episodes will be made over a 2 year period, and then it will be entered into syndication, meaning episodes will be aired daily. I imagine that they'll première them in series like blocks though, so it won't feel as different to the viewer.

But a 90 episode order is still kinda crazy.....

It could tank after 25 episodes

I watched both episodes on Friday, online, as I live in UK and could hardly wait to check out Charlie's eagerly anticipated new show. I absolutely adored Two and a Half Men whilst he was in it, and think he's a class act in general, Hot Shots was Legendary!
The pilot episode of Anger Management was okay, although it barely got a couple of half-hearted chuckles out of me. Ultimately it was not funny, not by a long stretch. But it does have potential, if those working on the show can tweak and tune it correctly. It won't be easy.
I half hoped that the show would be a comedy drama, Sheen, after all, can do more than just 'simple' comedy, e.g: Platoon, Wall Street. Maybe film it out on location, to give it a higher budget feel, scrap the canned laughter and stretch episodes to an hour.
But even sticking to its present formula I really hope they can turn Anger Management into a Winner!
The pilot was just okay, but the second episode was truly and utterly awful. I could barely watch it, I switched over to read stuff on other websites whilst it played in the background.

I learned one thing for certain last Friday though: It is not just Two and a Half Men that is a lot poorer for the loss of Charlie Sheen. Sheen is a lot poorer for the absence of Two and a Half Men (and I am not just speaking about financially).
Charlie Sheen said, during his breakdown early last year, that he 'turned Chuck Lorre's tin cans into pure gold'. Turns out it was very much a two-way street, although you could not get either man to admit that much. They had synergy, working together they were greater than the sum of their parts.
Ultimately, it is us fans who suffer the most for their parting of ways.

Yeah, It's shame ratings have took such dip though. Some are saying it's down to celebrations but will see next week.

How much have the ratings dipped?

I thought episode three was better. I'm sure the show will get refined if/ when they start on the next season.

Chuck Lorre was obviously the driving force behind Two and Half Men which may explain why Anger Management is so feeble.
Even so, Bruce Helford managed to make Drew Carey in to the highest paid performer on US tv once upon a time, so anything's possible.

If Chuck Lorre is so amazing, can somebody what happened during the latter half of season 5 of Big Bang Theory? Talk about a slow moving trainwreck...

Sorry but I don't share this view of TBBT: it's always been consistently funny and well written.
Chuck Lorre's shows are always worth a look and I usually end up sticking with them, even Mike and Molly.

Big Bang Theory but season 5 became unwatchable. It turned a shit attempt at friends and I'm considering not even bothering with it next year.

I know it's considered blasphemy but I loathed Friends (also Seinfeld and The Cosby Show).
Until TBBT/Two and a Half Men I reckon Chuck Lorre's high point was Dharma and Greg: the characters, writing and performances were top notch and funny as hell.

re: Friends

Yeah, I could've held a party when Channel 4/ E4 stopped showing repeats after what seemed like 847 years. Then Comedy Central devotes about 6 hours per day on it. I did like it originally, and for a while on repeats, but you can have too much of a good thing. Far, far, far too much!

re: Chuck Lorre

He definitely has the Golden Touch when it comes to sitcoms. Two and a Half Men (Charlie Sheen era) and Big Bang Theory are two of my favourite sitcoms EVER, easily.

Season 9 of TAAHM has still had some good gags, but without Charlie Sheen all the dynamics have been thrown off kilter. Also, we haven't seen enough of Berta or Alan's mum. Lacking Sheen has also led to some questionable storylines, the two mums' lesbian relationship being a prime example. The Zoe character is absolutely vile too.

Utlimately, it's pretty clear that season nine, and the upcoming ten, are only on screen because Lorre wanted to spite Sheen.

Back on topic though: It's a shame having Sheen onscreen without Lorre's sharp writing. The gulf in quality is all too apparent. I wonder if Charlie is aware of this? You'd think he must be, but his brain could be too cracked out from all those drugs, or he might be arrogant enough to delude himself into thinking it's better than it is.

Sheen and Lorre are taking shots at eachother from their respective shows: Sheen with that opening 'You can't fire me!' mini monologue from the pilot episode. And Lorre when Waldon was showing Alan his former business partner's videos on YouTube, which beared an uncanny similarity to Charlie's 'Sheen's Korner' videos during his 'episode' early last year.

Season five of Big Bang Theory was as good as any other in my opinion. The only complaint I would voice, is that the wedding episode finale was pretty weak. I'll definitely be back for season six. I'm sure Sheldon and Howard will be as brilliant as ever.
