Configuring update 3 of 3 - stuck in a loop!
I've been having issues with my laptop recently. About once a day it will shut itself down and try to 'configure updates' - it turns itself back on about 5 minutes later and say the update has failed.
Just tried turning it on and it loads up then instead of going to the log in screen it goes straight to configuring updates. It then starts to load again and I end straight back up at the configuring updates screen. It's been doing this for 2 hours now! Help! |

next time it restarts hold down F8 key & see if it goes into safe mode .... system restore should then be able to run .... suspect you might have a corrupted windows update creating the problem

Even when in safe mode it gets stuck in the configuration loop.

Switch on and keep tapping the F8 key to access the boot menu. Do you have 'Advanced Boot Options' on the list? If so, you can run System Restore via the 'Repair Your Computer' option in the recovery environment:
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/recovery.html http://www.faultwire.com/solutions/u...tore_vista.php If you don't have the 'Advanced Boot Option', you'll need a copy of a Vista disk to carry out the System Restore. Alternatively, you will probably have the facility to carry out a System Recovery or Factory Reset. Either of these will fix the issue, but it will wipe everything from the computer and put it back to the way it was when first bought. Use only as a last resort. |

Thanks everyone. I have eventually managed to do a system restore.
Unfortunately a restore point didn't exist early enough from when it first started attempting to install this update, but at least for now I am out of the loop and my computer will let me log on and actually use it. Is there any way I can stop this from happening again? |
