Thanks for the info. That morning I got Belgium on channel 40 but I've got a feeling it may have been a English transmission or at best Dutch on ch 21. I've never received French speaking Belgium tv let alone French. Do you get French tv in flat conditions or only during tropos ? Has it ever wiped out local mux's ?

Today on the West Wales coast about 20ft above sea level the whole of the VHF spectrum between 87.5 and 108mhz was obliterated by Spanish stations ---- even blanking out the very strong 89.3 mhz Radio 2 signal.
These signals were hugging the sea as they faded the higher I got after leaving the car park. This was between 1.30 and 2pm. Shame I was not at home . Any TV reports ---- I expected to see this thread alive ........? Regards |

If Spain or Portugal had still been transmitting on Band I, the band would have been full of those stations. Sadly, they're no longer in service .Chris. |

I don't know how far up the spectrum this went ---- sadly I could only monitor on an LDV van radio !!
Not the nicest of radio receivers --- it even has a cassette player ...... Regards |

As regards whether any French transmitters can wipe out Dover, there is potentially a problem for ch 48 (used by Neufchatel as well as Dover). Otherwise there does not appear to be co-channelling with the post DSO Dover frequencies from any NE France transmitters. This morning there was a notable reduction in signal quality from Dover on channel 48 using my roof aerial which points at Boulogne (the bearings from Ramsgate are: Boulogne 167 degrees Neufchatel 182 degrees Dover 207 degrees). Before DSO, there was regular interference, depending on the weather, from Dunkerque (channels 39, 42, 45). . |

Thanks for the info. Hopefully you should be able to pull in Belgium as well during a tropo from your location. In Norfolk we used to get co channeling from the Netherlands , of course an enhancement was needed for this to happen.

I'm interested in having a go at some DVB-T DXing, as i've not done it before, but i'm wondering what equipment I'd need to receive foreign signals.
I've got a outdoors UHF aerial for my downstairs television (currently situated in the loft) and a small indoor aerial for my bedroom television. I live in Sheffield, but will be going to Suffolk in the summer, where I assume it will be easier to pick up European channels. Any advice? Thanks |

Use http://www.tvradio-nord.com/divers/calcul_distance.html to work out the distance and bearing of the continental transmitter.
You enter your latitude and longitude in Suffolk and then either use the program to capture the coordinates of a particular transmitter or enter them directly. There are look-up programs on the net you can find with Google for determining latitude and longitude. You will need to know the UK channels that can be received in your location in Suffolk (main and relay) since there is no point looking where there is co-channeling. Under the right conditions expect high power transmitters on the continent up to 100 miles distant to be receivable. Conditions may sometimes only last for a few hours. For example Dunkerque R4 mux was viewable in Ramsgate at 6.30 this morning but had disappeared a few hours later. |

Since DSO in The Netherlands and Belgium, most transmitters are now using vertical polarization. See my vertically polarized UHF aerial -> http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...6/100_3113.jpg Try UHF channel 39. This is usually the first channel I receive during a "lift" from The Netherlands. Should be a clear channel in Suffolk (until Sudbury starts using it in 2013). Here's what I received on UHF channel 39, earlier this year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ct8fTaWhUrQ It was back in March (when we had our summer )Chris. |

Thank you both! Hope it'll be the right conditions when i'm in Suffolk then, i'm not very optimistic about achieving any results in Sheffield.

Don't assume you won't receive anything. I live high up near the Sheffield TX and even though the UHF band is choc full of signals from loads of UK transmitters, I have received signals from Germany and Holland, as well as more distant UK ones.

! Yes, Tacolneston on UHF 39 will be a nuisance for me. Mind you, sometimes the DX signal, even from the same direction, gets enhanced, rather than the more local one. And there is the opposite polarization to help, as well.Chris. |

For those with an interest in the French transmitters, I have attempted to research and summarise the recent channel changes which have taken place on the higher powered transmitters in N. France. All are horizontal. Other changes took place on a number of relays, but I have not attempted to research them.
I cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of this, but the numbers quoted have been gleaned using this page on the CSA site with post codes local to each site and based upon this list. Dept 2 Hirson / Landouzy R5 added on 35 Dept 14 Caen / Mt Pincon R5 was 23 now 45 Dept 35 Rennes / St Pern (Becherel) R5 was 37 now 55 Dept 50 Cherbourg / Digosville R5 was 57 now 60 R6 was 32 now 36 Dept 76 Le Havre / Harfleur R2 was 42 now 44 R4 was 48 now 32 R5 was 54 now 41 Dept 76 Neufchatel en Bray / Croixdalle R1 was 54 now 56 R2 was 29 now 48 R3 was 27 now 54 R5 was 58 now 29 R6 was 37 now 39 Dept 76 Rouen / Grand Couronne R5 was 37 now 23 Dept 80 Abbeville / Limeux, La Motte R5 was 37 now 58 Dept 62 Boulogne - Mont Lambert R2 was 29 now 23 R3 was 51 now 54 R4 was 41 now 26 R5 was 44 now 29 Dept 61 Alencon - Mont D'Amain The CSA site has an error on this one R5 is shown as changing from 37 to 45 but R6 is shown as also on 45 and unchanged This cannot be correct. |

And the site works for UK addresses too, although only it's only predicting reception in the Kent Coastal towns.

Hi guys
Dutch TV steaming in here on the east coast of Lincs on CH39 (NED 1,2,3 etc.) - very strong signal. The other frequencies aren't doing much at the moment, but power from West Runton (in between my location and Holland) also coming in strongly. Hopefully this is the start of some decent DX. |

From time to time I get German, and Belgian but my proximity to Holland makes Dutch DTT much more likely. As for Danish DTT, I haven't had that, but I have received Danish Analogue here before, so I am always hopeful.
