Yet again, in the middle of something, Safari has shut down, logging me out places and losing what I had been typing!

What is this crap? Why? Is it common? I am so annoyed.

Have you got loads of tabs open or has it been a long time since you deleted all of the app 'cookies' that remember where you are. If so, you might be running out of memory. Press the home button twice and delete the long string of apps at the bottom.

See if that does it.

Not had this problem ever on any iOS device, although to be fair I've only had an iPad for about 6 weeks (is it only that time, it's become so much a part of me it feels like it's always been there )

It will depend on which web sites you are on, and how they get along together.
RAM should really have nothing to do with it unless the OS is broken.

On a PC I have to switch from Opera occasionally to one that works so maybe do likewise.

Yeah I have had this happen to me but then in my experience all browsers do this from time to time including Chrome on my PC (which i had to reinstall last time it fell over).

It's usually to do certain websites in my experience, you will probably find you have a certain tab open every time it crashes.

I'll try clearing the cookies and see if that works! And I did have several tabs open. Just miffed as I had typed out a rather lengthy post on another forum and I lost it.

IOS on the whole is still a single tasking operating system.

Could the problem be that multi tabs open = multi-tasking and IOS just does not cope well and single tab use is advised.

Or is is just that Safari is the most used app?

iOS is a multitasking OS, you can see all the background tasks running. The only difference is Apple limit the type of background tasking of third party apps, things like GPS, Music and so forth run in the background fine.

Safari works perfectly fine with lots of tabs open, as well as Chrome on my PC does anyway. (I have 7 tabs open as I post this)

What are you talking about? iOS runs on a fully multi-tasking enabled UNIX kernel. In fact, it's fundamentally the same kernel as used in Mac OS X.

It is of course helpful to know about issues affecting Apple's products if you are an owner but I have to ask you alan, are you an owner of Apple's products? I ask because all you do is trash and criticize Apple at every opportunity you get.

You certainly do not sound like you own a single Apple product, or would ever own one, and yet somehow you are trying to come across as helpful in posts about Apple where it is obvious you are there just to trash Apple.

The original ones was definitely underspecced for RAM, which probably explains Safari problems sadly.

I've critically discussed Opera, Chrome, Windows, Linux and Google here without ever being told to shut up.

Moving towards actual answers the current Chrome on IOS allows a comparison between the turbo and non turbo engines.
Opera's turbo engine got very crashy too when first released so it is an obvious thought.

I have doubts about Russell being right about the iPad crashing when low on RAM. It would thus mean the iPad 2 is best avoided.
I'd only suggest it is certain web sites/ tab combinations.

Chrome is very useful here and might be an answer for some, even if it is only half the speed.

Depends on the website, DS forums load up faster in Chrome than in Safari.

No one is telling you to shut up. I just pointed out how many of your posts are simply a jab at Apple products and customers. Alan it is so obvious that I don't see how you can deny it.

No.The first iPad is the one typically referred to with the crashing issues because it has half the ram of the iPad 2.

My mum's ipad2 had the same problem. The last time I visited and it happened I noticed she had about 10 tabs open. I showed her how to close them and it hasn't happened since.
