I suspect you may have misheard what was said. I would be extremely surprised if the BBC had any pay per view plans as that would more than likely require a re-write of their charter!

Are you sure it wasn't a discussion on whether or not Freeview viewers should have to pay for filters if they get interference from the proposed new 4G mobile services?

The idea of "freeview" is that its FREE to view the clue might be in the name !!!

If any government was to even suggest they would allow any broadcaster to charge , they would be voted out of power before you could even spell coalition !

As someone else posted.....It was a discussion about who should pay for the filters required by Freeview viewers when 4G comes in..........Sheesh! As if it's not bad enough in the Country already, someone is thinking to pay for free TV.....

It remains to be seen yet what effect (if any) 4G will have on TV reception - and if it does presumably 4G will be responsible for fitting filters etc.

No body can say with 100% certainty what effect it will have.

Since the new 4G service will be using the part of the band that used to be used for TV services on UHF channels above 60 there is potential for these signals to be picked up by a TV aerial.

How much signal is picked up will depend to some extent on the type of aerial and the location of the 4G mast(s) relative to the aerial.

The likelihood is that most people won't be seriously affected but there have been figures of as many as 2 million households that could be affected, which, if true, is not exactly a tiny minority however.

No one knows, or even if there will be any problems - the bandwidth hasn't even been sold yet (although Blair long since spent the money).

I remember all the issues when freeview came into force that everyone needed a new aerial...yet i know people who have a rusty aerial that has been up 20 years or so that does the job ok

I agree....20 odd years ago we had 4 channels with more variety and was spolied for choice of a saturday night....plus the licence fee was much cheaper... NOW we have 70 odd channels with little or nothing worth watching.
