Connecting my 7.1 Headset to my work laptop for a VOIP conference
Hi,
I need to get access to a VOIP headset for an upcoming online conference. Rather than buying a new one, I figured I might be able to use my gaming headset It is a turtlebeach px5 wireless headset. Here is a picture of the ports on the back of the receiver (picture on the right) http://www.gamingzap.com/media/catal.../7/27405-e.jpg I connect it up to my gaming PC via optical however my work laptop does not have optical. What it does have is a mic port (which is pink) and a headphone port (which is blue). Can I just buy two of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Stereo...1353202&sr=8-3 and plug them into the two ports into the back of the receiver, and the two ports on the side of my work laptop and then I'll be able to participate in my VOIP conference is normal? Luckily it doesn't have a webcam so nobody will know I'm wearing a giant gaming headset whilst discussing business ![]() Thanks! |

Simple answer, no.
The headset uses Bluetooth for two way communications. It does not use the base unit for the mic section. So although you could get audio out of your laptop via a 3.5mm Jack to twin phono lead (not the one's you have linked to) to hear the other end there is no way to get the mic output into the laptop so they can hear you. |

Pop into Asda/Tesco - both do very simple VOIP/gaming headsets with Mics. For £6.50 in Asda's case.
I had some and they served me very well for quite a while until I found some "better" HP ones in a sale. In any case I am guessing you can put them through as a business expense. |
