Do the DMOL rules specify that they have to broadcast video within 3 months? Perhaps a MHEG is sufficient for them.

'Soon' in Freeview speak means 'Possibly'!

There are certain occasions when DMOL can use their discretion to extend - usually the broadcaster has to have a very good excuse with a concrete go live date. Otherwise, it'll have the same fate as channel 45 "TBA" last year... It'll get the axe.

As far as Freeview is concerned they are working with a 25kbps data stream; it's the ipTV that isn't.

Better examples are TV News & TV Stars which are supposed to be video services.

It's still a static "coming soon" caption rather than a real service.

Also, pedantically, Freeview don't care whether they are broadcasting or not; it's DMOL who like to nick the LCNs back.

I agree that they are less interested in revoking LCNs in the Text Services section, but I suspect this is more to do with the genre not being overcrowded or in heavy demand, rather than anything to do with them being data only.

If anyone should know when a channel is starting, it should be TV News.

In some cases BBCi & Sky Text being 2 they can not be removed as pressing the Red Button or Text button links to the LCNs in the text service section, but all the others like the now un-used Teletext LCN should be revoked.

I don't think anybody was suggesting that BBC Red Button and Sky Text are removed (although the Sky Text links from their channels need sorting as it does a pointless channel change and asking for another button press).

Ch 100 Teletext has already been revoked. The LCN has to remain free for the public teletext service licencee (the fact we don't have one, and Ofcom/DCMS have made no effort to either initiate a licensing round or remove the legislation, is beside the point)

There's only just over a week left before TV Stars and TV News placeholders are 3 months old - so it's a case of launch soon or lose the EPG slot (but currently on a different mux to Big Deal). Unless they have good commercial reasons to delay.

4seven is on COM5 (post-DSO) as is TV Stars & TV News.So one or both may go live tomorrow morning taking the four hours that 4seven is not using.

The EPG listings for 4Seven don't show any downtime though, do they?
I had a quick look and there seems to be either programmes or teleshopping 24 hours a day.

The freeview EPG is not always right.Look at LCN106 it has EPG listing yet it is not on the air.

Probably never. You should be asking,"When are the placeholders going to be removed?"

Pigs might fly before we see them.

For a couple of years now or so we have heard of these channels, there is even a web site and forum although any questions put on there about a possible start date are clamped down very fast as that is venturing in Planet No-No-land as far as Electric Sofa is concerned. The forum has practically dried up after many gave a wish list of programmes they wanted to see on these channels had they had posted earlier.

I just wonder if it is just one big send-up joke created by someone with weird sense of humour.

What are electric sofa channels, do they sell sofas or show pictures of them?

There you go —

http://www.electric-sofa.com/

They were supposed to start broadcasting, must be a couple of years ago now and various rumours of a start date. You can just sign up and the read all the posts in the forum just for laughs. Any post made in the forum querying a start date get instantly stamped on and referred back to an official post made there ages ago about when they are ready they will announce it — still waiting.

It appears the web site was launched months before it should have been, far better to have a start date, then start a forum and web site. Few bother to post there now anyway, I think many are disillusioned. I can't ever see this getting off the ground.
