Anyone notice how much smaller South Fork is!

Watched an old episode the other day and the old SF is about 5 times bigger! lol
I noticed this too - but I just thought that since I was older my childhood memories made South Fork SEEM larger (you know, like going back to school and realising it's not actually as big as you remember!)

BIB - was it really larger or just your perception?, just wondering

Just done some digging about on youtube and it looks like they changed SF in the original Series.

In 1 video we have a mansion SF,

However in later series we have the SF that we have in the 2012 series.

So the 2012 series has kept the same house its just the original series which changed houses.

South Fork is actually a real ranch in Braddock, some miles outside Dallas.

I know because I have been there when I was researching a book.

It is easily recognisable as the real place in many shots - though they did film studio shots as well, so not all on location at the actual South Fork.

I was very surprised how small in real life was JR and Sue Ellen's bedroom, for instance. TV just magnifies images. But driving into the place along that very long drive in an open sports car was still very thrilling!

Oh, and sat by the pool it was extremely windy - like you see if you watch various episodes. The area around it is very flat and open and the winds are persistent!

Ah, but, the interiors also changed between the first and second season. In fact while they were building the new sets many of the interior shots of the early episodes took part on location at the actual Southfork. Such as this scene:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO_W8bOiZk4

After the 1983 finale in which Southfork was badly damaged by fire the sets were enhanced and enlarged further. These sets simply wouldn't have fit the real Southfork.

Its also worth pointing out that the layout has changed for Dallas 2012, too. The dining room is where the lounge used to be and Bobby's office is actually where the dining room was in original show.

They also use the front door (a running Wogan joke) and have filmed a number of scenes at the front of the house which was a rarity in the original series.

The lounge is now at the back of the house overlooking the patio.

"Dallas" was officially renewed for a 2nd season earlier today (15 episodes ordered for next year). TNT is clearly happy with it. The show averages 6.9 million viewers.

Hmm. Will it follow the original series which went from 5 to 24 to eventually 31 episode seasons.

I wonder what the cliffhanger will be?

http://www.digitalspy.ie/ustv/s203/d...iffhanger.html

My guesses are that Anne is actually Bobby's first wife Pam who had her appearance changed following facial reconstruction after the fiery car crash that caused Pam to leave the original series. And Sue Ellen was aware of who she was all along. Or that Anne is actually Rebecca's mother and is in on the whole scam with Rebecca and her "brother".

My guesses might sound a bit bonkers but this is Dallas after all.

That's way too bonkers. Almost all the Dallas cliffhangers involved the life/death hanging in the balance of a major character. To that end I think it will involve Marta going psycho and trying to kill John Ross much as Katherine Wentworth did to Bobby in the original show.

How about a 99 year old Jock emerges from the jungle and reclaims Ewing Oil having survived the plane crash in series 3 or whenever it was.

It's interesting that Ray and Lucy, in the small bit parts they've had so far, almost seem like a couple. Does anyone remember that in the very first series they were secret lovers for a short while, then years later when it was revealed Ray was Jock's bastard son (making him Lucy's uncle!), it was though the affair had never happened... there was never any 'awkward conversation' between the two, which would've been interesting!

It's a new one tonight according to TV Guide. It won't let me copy and paste the synopsis but the episode is called "Truth and Consequences" and this week the owner of the deeds to Southfork is revealed and Ann get help from a mystery person from her past to help fight JR.

I'm assuming cable TV doesn't pre-empt shows in the same way as network TV does for holidays and football which is why TNT are airing a new episode.

I predict big premier viewer numbers, but as the weeks go by they will spiral downwards.

The storylines were so unbelievable ..
Not great, but It's watchable just to see the old cast members in action again, but there's nothing new here. It just seems like a rehash, and so I could spot the twists coming a mile off.

Spoiler

Out of curiosity, I wonder if Victoria Principle will make an appearance at some point.

John Barrowman was on This Morning today saying he has been on the set and to South Fork making a special programme going behind the scenes of the return of Dallas.

The standard is staying high, I've been impressed so far as an old series fan. There have been some surprises for me e.g. Rebecca and Tommy being found out so soon, so I guess there are further elements we don't know about yet to come into play.

There's no way Ann is Pam as an earlier poster suggested - Ann is at least a foot taller and about a decade younger! Victoria Principal is talking to the other cast members these days so it could happen.

I've often wondered if Christopher might turn out to be JR's son after all. His mother Kristin (Sue-Ellen's coke addict sister) was his mother (she's definitely dead, she drowned in the Southfork pool after falling off the roof while high), but before she died she tried to blackmail JR saying Christopher was his son. I can't remember the details but then a bit later on Christopher's addict father sold him to Bobby. Were proper paternity tests done? It would certainly shake things up (as if that's needed) if John-Ross and Christopher turned out to be brothers rather than cousins.

Given JR's departure in the show in episode 5, and his real life battle with cancer, will he be in any more of the first seasons episodes (finale excepted of course).

Its not rehashing, its continuing stories. And it may shock you but there are only a handful if plots ever used, everything gets repeated over and over.

That's why the young and wide eyed are easily fascinated because they think what they see is new and different, but as we grow older we start seeing things for the repeated ideas they are (and thus get grumpy

CBS on satellite are currently up to the series after Bobby has died. Very strange watching that again given that 27 years later he isn't going to be dead any more!

If I recall when watching Dallas first time around in the 80s there were things in the next series (after Bobby is suddenly not dead again and it was all a dream) that happen and that follow on from things that supposedly did not happen given that they were all supposed to have been a dream.

I look forward to nit picking all over again as I scream at the TV - but that never actually happened as it occurred in the series that never was!

Also strange to see the transition from one day to the next as Miss Ellie reacts to Bobby's 'death' but is played by Donna Reed and then next day in scenes set moments later in show time is played by Barbara Bel Geddes again after her season off. Had forgotten this overlapped with Bobby's demise making it all the more surreal.
