Also don't worry about the make of discs. It's not the cause.

Get a pack of 10 DVD-RW, not DVD-R, they are reuseable.

OK I have got one now

Now, the problem I have is no USB Holes left? Can I buy some kind of Extension Multi Socket USB?

Has anyone got one of these Samsung SE-208AB/TSBS 8 x DVD+/-RW Slim Portable External DVD Writer and can give me advice on how to use it?

Does anyone know if the Samsung SE-208AB/TSBS 8 x DVD+/-RW Slim Portable External DVD will allow me to burn an 8.5 GB Disk? If so how do I get it to select my 8.5 GB Disk as it says on Nero CD-R/RW 650 next to the burn button?

The burner handles the following discs:
Samsung SE-208AB - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM drive - Hi-Speed USB - 24x (CD) / 8x (DVD) 24x (CD) / 8x (DVD±R) / 6x (DVD±R DL) 24x (CD) / 6x (DVD-RW) / 8x (DVD+RW) / 5x (DVD-RAM) - External - Black

Select on your burning program (I think you use Freemake but others are similar)) the type of disc being used i.e you have a choice of:
Mini DVD
Standard DVD
Double layer DVD

If you're short of USB sockets......

You should be able to see that by which drive letter it was using.

I thought so too but it is not coming up as one of the drive letters for some reason?

Regardless or not of whether the writer was supplied with Nero (and it was most likely a cut down version) it should be detected as a removable drive, and assigned a drive letter, when connected to the PC.
Again, forgetting Nero for the moment, if you are using Freemake you are given a choice on DVD output parameters of e.g.:
DVD disc, ISO, Folder
then on a drop down list (and these are examples)
D: CDDVDW Hitachi
F: CDDVDW Samsung
Save to folder
Save to ISO

OK thanks, I figured it out and the Drive is working and located it in Freemake. However, the brand new Verbatims still will not burn even on the new DVD writer but the other DVDs will burn. None of the verbatim in this brand new pack burn on my PC or on the New DVD writer? They all come up with disk error? I just dont understand it. Thats why I bought a new DVD burner as none of the brand new Verbatims in this particular pack burned on my PC but all other DVD Disks would burn on my PC, the same is with this new DVD writer. I even bought some other Verbatim from a local store and they burned fine, but from this particular pack they will not burn on my PC or my new DVD writer

Had the same problem with a batch of Disks I bought from PC World quite a few years ago, I took the pack back and they replaced them for me, so it might just be a dodgy batch you have if everything else burns off fine

Typical, after hours and hours of trying to figure it out, including a NEW DVD drive it turns out it was a dogdy batch of disks!!

Believe me with the amount of trouble Ive had with coming on here and asking whats the problem and buying new bits and pieces to find out it was a dodgy hard drive or something similiar then you get used to a kick in the teeth for something so annoying !!

Thanks, I am wondering, if I get one that has 7 ports is that enough to power things like a printer, webcame, DVD writter etc? Or should I just get one with 4 ports?

Only go for powered hubs and check to see how much current it can provide per port, if it can do 0.5A it will be fine.

Many devices don't draw power from the USB port such as printers, they usually have a seperate AC adapter.

Gor, thanks. I am thinking of going for

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-USB-2-0...tp_s2_edpp_url

That one, its for Speakers, Webcam, external DVD driver. Do you think that would do the job in terms of current etc?

Or

or

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/logik-...09281-pdt.html

I really know nothing about these things? ie powered hubs etc? All I want is a few extra USB sockets for my PC as I have no spare USB Sockets. Can anyone tell me if any of these would work? Are these powered hubs?

The only one of the above that may be suitable is http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/logik-...79017-pdt.html

These certainly are powered

If you look at the small illustration on the Amazon link it shows the mains supply and a lead to go from the hub (mini-USB?) to the PC
The ebay listing appears to have been removed, but no matter which powered hub you get the connection to the PC will be the same/similar to the Trust (Amazon) hub or it may be a fixed lead to connect to the PC
