I loved that film! I thought it might signal a real return to form for both Martin and Murphy.

Sadly, it proved to be a false dawn.

The thing is that I never watch a film just because a certain actor is in it because I should think that everyone has been in a poor film now and again.

So Sam Neill has never let me down when I've seen him in such films as The Dish, The Piano, Event Horizon, Sirens and the like. I understand Wimbledon isn't that great, but I haven't watched it so Sam's record with me is unblemished.

Will Smith, again I've seen loads of great films with him in (I love Wild Wild West ) but I know that the Legend of Badger Vance is out there.

Kurt Russell has the likes of Soldier and Captain Ron, John Cusack has War Inc., Gene Hackman has the Superman films (can't stand them myself) or Wyatt Earp, even the legend that is Clint Eastwood has Pink Cadilac or City Heat.

Gary Oldman makes a crap film better.

Also Nicole Kidman BUT only when she's playing someone cold and/or bitchy.
The Golden Compass was horrible but she was the best thing about it.

James McAvoy
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Ryan Gosling (Loved him ever since I first saw The United States of Leland)
Leonardo DiCaprio
Jena Malone (she has possibly done some terrible movies, but I've loved anything I've ever seen her in!)
Kate Winslet

Heath Ledger was another one - never a bad movie (with the possible exception of Casanova, but I quite liked it...)

Totally agree. I've watched his movies since 'The Computer wore Tennis shoes'

He always strikes me as somebody that turns up on time and gives his all.

He is also as convincing in straight roles as he is in comedies.

Loved him in 'Overboard' but imo his best performance was in 'Breakdown'.

From this side of the pond, Tom Hardy unfortunately made Bronson (great performance, horrible film). Ray Winstone, Robert Carlyle, Stephen Graham and Mark Strong always do us proud, as of course do Micheal Sheen and Sir Gary of Oldman, as long as he stays away from sci-fi (5th Element, Lost in Space).

For the Americans -Not seen Robert Downey Jr put much of a foot wrong. Kevin Spacey, the very underrated Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Jodie Foster and an oldie but goodie - Jack Lemmon.

Thought Bronson was good but Hardy really made it better.

Micheal Sheen, Samuel L Jackson, Brendan Fraser, Meryl Streep.

I like Sandra Bullock, but in at least one of those Miss Congeniality films, she is appalling!

Not necessarily a choice of mine, but Adam Sandler continues to perplex film critics. No matter how poorly they rate his films, people still flock to see them. It got me thinking that I've yet to see an Adam Sandler film I haven't enjoyed. Don't Mess With the Zohan came close but for some weird, unknown reason, I found myself enjoying it!!!!

He wasn't that good in Star Trek Nemesis or thick as thieves (pretty unremarkable in that)

I think he is a brilliant actor but as with most of the actors mentioned in the thread there have been performances that were just phoned in.

I wouldn't say he was my favourite actor, but I've never seen a film in which Kevin Bacon turns in a bad performance....
