I read alot of steinbeck many years ago. I found his output very uneven "Pastures of Heaven" was one of my favourites. I read "The Moon is Down" when I was about 12 & thought it was brilliant.
I read "Grapes of Wrath" many years ago, & am just re reading it. Interesting.

I've only read Of Mice and Men and it really is a terrific book. Absolutely loved it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

For me, it's the epic tale of the American Dust Bowl era, The Grapes of Wrath.

The Grapes of Wrath. Rose of Sharon's early optimism and ultimate plight into the misery of her life will stay with me until I die.

"The grapes of wrath" and "Of mice and men" were outstanding.
The only other one I've read is "The pearl", which wasn't

Tortilla Flat and Cannery Row for me. The "better" books I didn't really care for very much at all

I have just rejoined DS after a couple of years - and found this...oh joy!

I love the non fiction books. Travels with Charley, (a poodle )
his memories as a war correspondent "Once there was a war" .

More than anything - the man himself. I have "Life in Letters". He wrote every day longhand - in a yellow journal. On one page, he kept a diary, and on the other page, his current book. For any Steinbeck fan, I would seriously recommend this for a parallel account of his life alongside his writing. xxx

It has to be Of Mice and Men for me. Just finished East of Eden too.

One thing that may put some people off is the high price of mostly thin books, however I did find this on Amazon
