I am astounded The Fades has been axed. It was a really good idea and well scripted. I was looking forward to the next series to see what happens. If it is to do with money I am sure there are plenty of other programmes that could have been taken off. It appears that anything that isn't mainstream gets third rate treatment.

Awful decision.

The Fades was great.

Sure, it had some issues (Johnny Harris' acting was a real distraction for me), but the overall story, effects, and relationship between the two main lads were really, really good.

Cult show that deserved better. It was something unique. Pity.

Disappointing (but not surprising, given that the ratings weren't fantastic after the premiere).

The docs like Blue Planet and Mrs Browns Boys are the ONLY other things besides the Fades that I ever watch on the BBC now. What am I paying my license fees for!

I really hope another channel like Sky picks up the rights for this and gives it the decent treatment it deserves! They have recommisioned Bedlam for a second series I believe and while Bedlam was ok, the Fades was so much better, it could do well for them.

Anyone waiting for Sky (or anyone else) to pick up The Fades will almost certainly have a long wait, as the show was made in-house by the BBC (as opposed to, say Being Human, which is made by an independent production company) ... so unless the BBC starts making programmes for Sky - an interesting concept but unlikely - I think this is, unfortunately, goodbye to The Fades.

And for anyone complaining: The Fades' demise is nothing to do with the show's quality and everything to do with the BBC's cost-cutting Delivering Quality First incentive, which means, among other things, major cuts for both BBC Three and BBC Four. BBC Three simply can't afford more new drama - that's why Being Human is only returning for six episodes, rather than eight. It's all about money. Nothing else.

But, yes, it is a shame.

very slight glimmer of hope

If they can't get Iain and Daniel, I don't think they should make it.

I would say yes. It ended with the main storyarc for the season resolved but with a new one opened up.
I'm disappointed theres not going to be more but certainly don't regret the time I spent watching it

Without doubt watch it, one of the best slices of British genre TV in a very, very long time.

I was a bit "meh" about it at first, but the first 10 mins of Ep3 (yes, that scene!) made me love it!

What you mean its not an accurate day to day depiction of life in Dublin suburbs??

Im too lazy to edit my original post and refer to it as a comedy.

If Being Human's fifth series ends up being it's last (which is a possibility) and BBC3 can't come up with a new genre drama, maybe they will recommission The Fades with most if not all the original cast?

I wonder why it hasn't been repeated? Everything else seems to be given extra airings.

You get the impression the BBC are embarrassed after dropping it and then it won the BAFTA.

I was just reading this interview in The Guardian with the BBC3 Controller Zai Bennett and it mentions that one of the reasons why The Fades was cancelled was "partly because its audience was older than he wanted." FFS!

That does seem a very poor reason. There must have been a lot of the target audience watching it though maybe not the "Pint of Lager..." crowd he was after.

When I saw this thread had been bumped I hoped it was someone with news it had been reprieved.

Nice to see that the BBC believe in discriminating it's viewers based on Age.
