Class3 - XBLA (Zombie MMO)

Just thought I'd give you the heads up a game called Class3 that is being developed exclusively for XBLA, It's an ambitious MMO Zombie Apocalypse game, ok maybe people are a bit sick of zombies but this has been in the works for a good while now and it appears to be coming along nicely. It looks very interesting and it's certainly something to keep your eye on when it appears later this year.

Latest footage:

Forgot to mention, the team developing this (Undead Labs) are made up of ex- Blizzard developers who've worked on games such as World of Warcraft, Guild Wars and Diablo so they have a damn good track record!

Iv'e been watching this for a good while now and we discussed this on here some time ago.

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...hlight=class+2

I think they intend to release a xbla game to test the waters before jumping into a full blown game (Class 4) that will feature full online multiplayer.

It'll be interesting to see if they still intend to release Class 4on the next gen xbox or this one if rumours of a new console are true.

Ah I missed that thread else I wouldn't of posted another one. It's looking really good though and from reading the interview it does seem that it's maybe the most ambitious created for XBLA which is saying a lot with games like Alan Wake American Nightmare on the way. I read that CLass4 will likely be for Xbox fusion.

I'd forgotten about this! Though now I remember I would like this very much.

Guys, an update. The game hasn't been cancelled and is still very much coming but multiplayer has been dropped.

New Community Manager Sanya Weathers, dropped the bombshell during a Q&A on the developers new forums stating:

“Since we plan to rapidly build a massively multiplayer online world around the Class3 design foundation, we decided to defer co-op play in Class3. Our hope is to add co-op play to Class3 during the development of Class4, but for now Class3 will be a single-player experience.

We wanted to let you know what the deal was as soon as we knew. While we are extremely happy with the way the game has come together around our core design goals — strategic base building, slick combat, open-world sandbox, survival simulation — we’re of course disappointed we couldn’t get co-op play in for release, so we’ll understand if you are too.”

Weathers also went on to say during further forum chat that whilst they’re certainly keen to add multiplayer to Class3 later on it’s not a sure thing:

“Class4 is a massively multiplayer game. Since we’ll be building co-op for that, our logic is that we should be able (at that time) to put it into Class3. But we’re being deliberately vague and saying things like “hope” instead of “promise” because I’m meeeeeeeeeeean.

Class4 is going to be the cube to the Class3 square. So there is still PLENTY for us to learn, and we may even do a better job, without the complication of co-op.”

However it’s not all doom and gloom, Weathers also revealed that Class3 is now in the alpha stages of development, meaning it’s now fully playable but has yet to be tested for bugs. The game will be story driven, but with a massive scope and players will still be able to continue playing after completion in the sandbox style world.

There will be around 50 named characters each with their own backgrounds, traits, hang-ups, and desires, and every building is said to be enterable unless damaged. Players can barricade and secure buildings after they’ve cleared them out and claimed them as an Outpost. Any buildings under your control then create a radius of protection around the building and immediate area.

Strategy features highly in the gameplay and players will need to manage their resources and fuel. There is talk of being able to grow vegetables and fishing, hunting and raising livestock may be available in later add-ons. As for weapons, whilst they can be created, they will be strictly realism based and the team are currently said to be working on a weapon maintenance system with more details to be announced later.

Indeedy, this really interested me:

It sounds like they're really going all out to make a proper survival horror game, maybe they are keeping a keen eye on DayZ, a game I've not played but it looks quite cool.

I'm disappointed with some of the new info they've made public.

In particular:
  • You can’t grab random world objects to fight zombies
  • You can’t rearrange furniture to barricade doors and windows
  • You can’t build from found objects
  • We’re nice, because we don’t make you find the wood (when barricading doors and windows)

I assume the last one means that wood will just appear when your at a window, similar to when you barricade windows in call of duty nazi zombies.

The big question now has to be if Class 3 is exclusive to the Xbox 360, will class 4 be a next generation title for the inevitable future Microsoft console? I can't see Class 3 being released until 2013 now which means that Class 4 will probably take another year or two to develop.

Gutted it'll be single player, still suppose Class 4 is only 2 or so years away.

I guess we don't really know quite how far away Class 4 is but I'm happy with a single player only game tbh. The elements they are looking seem to be suited better to it. It sounds like could be aiming to go up against The Last of Us in some ways.

Plenty of new info on this on the official website with more details about things such as vehicles.

It's also been confirmed that Undead Labs will be at PAX this year with Class 3 so we're almost certain to see some gameplay footage as well as an official name for the game at the end of august.

Oh my, that looks great! So happy they kept the farming and gathering resources, it's going to really add to the sense of survival and it's a concept that hasn't really been covered all that well thus far in a game.

Wasn't sure where to put this since this game isn't called Class3 anymore but as we are nearing the release of this game there's been some new info and videos released.

Most recently is the Q&A with the developer at their official forum which you can read here and the lateast short video outlining some of the weapons and tactics available to you during combat here

I have to say this game is shaping up to be something quite special and while it still looks a bit rough in places pretty much everyone that has played it at shows have come away highly impressed.
