I know they were out there to commentate on all of the Republic of Ireland games but from reading their pre-tournament press release, I thought the plan was to only do the Ireland games and nothing more. It even said something like them doing games from Ukraine in the event of RoI getting through to the knockout phase.
They did. I was surprised too but I tuned in just to be certain!

Wednesday 4th July - Premier Sports (Great Britain), Setanta 1 (Ireland), Setanta Sports (Africa and Australia) and Zuku Sports

Copa Libertadores Final Second Leg
Corinthians v Boca Juniors - Will Downing

The channels and commentator were the same for coverage of the first leg of the final from La Bombonera on Wednesday (28th June) of last week.

I have the day off so stayed up to watch the game live via the Perform Group's Watch&Bet service - who used the usual hispanic CONMEBOL world feed commentator who nobody seems to know the name of - but with them cutting off their feed midway through the annual half hour it takes them to get round to presenting the trophy, I stumbled upon means of watching Premier's coverage of the presentation itself.

Fair to say Will had worked hard to come up with some clever one-liners to mark the occasion - I'm not usually a fan of pre-prepared sounding soundbites, but when they're making you wait half an hour with not much going on I've certainly got no qualms about them here - and kudos to him for taking the time to thank all of the South American football experts who send him information about the Libertadores on Twitter throughout the season. I particularly liked his shout out to Jon Cotterill and Bira Brasil from the Brazilian league world feed which included him lamenting their absence from British screens (but happily not webstreams) this season.

It's a shame Perform don't take the Premier Sports commentaries on Watch&Bet as they do on the Argentinian league games that channel covers, as by all accounts Will does a great job on the Libertadores and Sudamericana and I suspect I'd prefer him to the world feed (although massive credit to their regular commentator who I suspect is commentating in his second or third language, which is very impressive in itself). Roll on three weeks for the start of the Copa Sudamericana.

Thanks to DJPower and Rufus for correcting me regarding SBS and RTE 2FM's coverage of the Euro 2012 Final.

cheers mate, will have to do that this season. The good thing about it being on BBC2 was that it never delayed in Northern Ireland but thanks again.

You can also watch it on BBC1 London etc if you have Sky Digital like I have had to do in the past. Wish they'd change the presenter though.

Cheers AZ - I may be in the minority but I like Colin Murray on MOTD2, prefer him to Adrian Chiles however I do like Mark Chapman aswell and he would be a good host if Murray ever leaves

Must admit Chapman has won me around somewhat - his documentary on Hansie Cronje is one of the best things I've heard/seen from the BBC in recent years. As for Murray, you have an ally in Darren. (OT: Different genre I know but I find it astonishing that our outstanding broadcaster Noel Thompson has never been a regular on the national network while Murray and Nolan are.)

That Eurosport Player looks good. Do you get Eurosport International with it when connecting from Britain?

I agree on Noel Thompson but I really like Nolan and he has the biggest show on Radio Ulster & BBC NI

I have always found Chapman excellent, I prefer Final Score when he is on it and I also think the doucumentaries he has done such as the Cronje one and the homosexuality in sport were excellent

Bloody hell at the men's game! I like Savage but the rest is dreadful. You'd expect the number 1 in Mowbray to be on the men's game!

It's just a friendly between the Olympics teams. Hardly any reason to get the leading commentators and pundits in.

But the leading commentator IS on the women's match

Chicago Fire v LA Galaxy - ESPN US

Commentary from Adrian Healey and Taylor Twellman, with Alexi Lalas providing half time analysis

Apparently Lee Dixon is to transfer to ITV to replace Gareth Southgate. I think that would be a great signing if true.

Guy Mowbray works very well with Lucy Ward in my opinion so while the commentary pairing on the men's game doesn't look the best, I'm looking forward to hearing those two on the women's game.

This might not be a popular opinion given some people's views on women's football, but I think the BBC are correct to put their leading commentator on the women's match, especially when you consider his history of working with their main female co-commentator.

Compare the significance of the Olympic football tournament in the respective gender's version of the sport. In the women's game, it is a full international competition which is without doubt the second biggest tournament in the sport after the Women's World Cup. In men's football, the Olympics is a glorified under-23 tournament that is reasonably big news in South America but is lightly regarded in the rest of the world. Looking at things from that perspective, I would not blame the BBC for prioritising the women's tournament over the men's, as strange/controversial as that view may sound to those who think men's football should usurp everything else.

That brings BBC Wales into line with BBC Scotland and BBC Northern Ireland as they all show highlights of the National team but I wish we could go back a few years when all the matches were live on the Nations. England fans are lucky they have all their home matches on Live on ITV

I wonder if that means BBC Scotland will be able to show highlights of the World Cup Qualifier.

I think under the current deal with the SFA, BBC Wales will be able to show the Hampden leg.
