Android tablet

Im looking to purchase a tablet, we have an iPad which my company supplied but to be honest I find his restrictive.

Ideally I am looking for android, both my wife and myself have android phones so this makes sense. I'm not keen on the widescreen versions which seem to be in e shops.
On eBay we have found some 9.7 inch tablets, so the same size as iPads.
Is there any of these that anyone can recommend?

The highest end 4:3 tablet I can think of is the one from Sony tablet S, all the other high end one are 16:9. Aside from the no name brands which its your risk to take, Levono are bringing out a 9.4" tablet soon,

Any specific reason you don't want a 16:9 tablet, it seems the standard for android devices and will give you a lot more choice.

The Sony isn't a 4:3 aspect ratio it's 16:10 so closer to 'nornal' widescreen ratio.

Son and daughter each have one of these and it's a nice piece of kit. The cheaper 16GB one is now good value as it has a full-sized SD card slot so storage is easily expandable.

It doesn't actually, in fact I hadn't realised it wasn't 16:9 until your post led me to check.

I've a Transformer yet didn't notice the difference. Having said that most of the films I've watched on the tablet have been cinematic rather than TV aspect ratio.

It won't look squished as apps are designed for that size

By far the best Android tablet is the Google Nexus 7 for £129 for 8Gb or £199 16Gb, comes with the brand new Android OS. Released in the next couple of weeks.

£159 for the 8GB! They're near enough selling them at cost as it is. They'd be making a loss it was £129!

How can you say its the gest android tablet when its not even out yet. Though it looks good on paper and u tube stuff I have seen.

and as its 7inch screen rather than the larger screen the op is after.

I am interested in what you find restrictive, the one we have in the family is pretty fast, and coupled streaming apps and battery life its pretty good

That looks interesting! How smooth it runs is the tester of course. Full marks for having an SD slot and full size usb at that price though

If it's the ability to expand with SDcards the Nexus isn't for the OP either.

I feel that you will see the main brands, ditching the sd side, For me personally theres not a need for them, broadband speeds increasing, 4g etc. You will be running apps from cloud servers in the future. Its already started with movies etc

Not really, a lot of folk take them on holidays, use as little media centres, you can't rely on 'cloud' services.

This looks a good deal for the money

Perfect for those trips away

let me correct you there,

'By far the best Android tablet for the price'

If you are talking about the best android tablet, then the transformer infinity seems to best out there.

BTW, I was surprised at the low nits rating the nexus has

may be in the future, but for the time being I prefer local storage and not having a SD card slot is a pain

It's the same as the iPad, better than a few and fine indoors.

What is it that you find "restrictive?"
