Food Factory - BBC1 Monday's 7.30pm

Quote:
Stefan Gates reveals the secrets of supermarket food by making his own from scratch. Does instant soup contain real tomatoes? How much seawater is needed to make sea salt? Stefan challenges Anton Du Beke and Jodie Prenger to make rival bottles of orange squash, but whose will go in the basket and whose will go in the bin?

This used to be Jimmy Doherty's Food Factory. Not sure why he's left, possibly got a contract with C4. I like Stefan Gates as a food presenter.
He has done some good documentaries and some kids telly like Gastronuts.

Shame they have gone down the route of having celebrity guests though.

It's a bit childish could have been good if they were not acting like they are on CBBC.

Why have they made it into a celebrity challenge show? I quite liked the information that used to be in Jimmys food factory.

EDIT: The bit about tomato cup a soup was much more like the old style food factory, if only he'd done that for the orange juice too. There is no need for Anton Du Beke.

EDIT EDIT: revelation of the week, if you dry out seawater to be left with sea salt it tastes "very salty" - wow!

Once we had a sensible, informative and entertaining programme. It was the closest thing the BBC ever got to broadcasting real science.
I guess the BBC powers decided that it went against all their principles and have turned it into a mix of CBBC, a game show and Bang Goes the Theory.

I can feel my brain trying to crawl out of my ears as I watch. Going to have to switch it off and read some Steven Hawking to restore balance

<click> Ahhhh, that's better ...now where did I leave A Brief History of Time? RIP a once decent programme.

I still wouldn't have minded if it was on CBBC just without the celebs.
I enjoyed Gastronuts and also Incredible Edibles to an extent.

This is programming for idiots .... are we supposed to be shocked at how they make honeycomb?? I can make it in my kitchen.... why the goggle and performance . We really supposed to believe that Esther Rantzen hasn't had a Crunchie since she was 12.

This should be on CBBC ... and that's giving it feint praise

I watched the last series and I enjoyed it, but I watched last weeks, and I'm not watching any more of them
Why does EVERY programme have to crowbar celebrity muppets into it ?

I wondered who the other 'celebrity' was. It's Rantzen's daughter. Appropriately she appeared on Pointless Celebrities.

It was better with Jimmy Docherty, although I do like Stephan Gates. I bet this would make a good kids show but obviously they can't have kids messing with all the dangerous equipment.

It was indeed, a much more lucrative and exclusive 3-year contract

I miss jimmy what a load of rubbish this is.
There is no need for the challenge, which now takes up half the show
I found the sandwich making interesting yesterday to be fair but they need to go back to the original and make things that we actually question. How many people actually care how orange squash is made?

I found the sandwich factory bit interesting, although i'm sure I saw nearly similar footage on a programme last week. They should have more of the factory footage. I'm sure they had factory footage in most episodes in previous series.
