PS3 New Hard drive Problem.

I received my new Ps3 hard drive this morning a 250 gb SATA seagte 5400 from Amazon. I backed up my Ps3 to my external usb drive. I inserted the new drive done everything right waited for the screen to come on it said do u wanna format new hard drive i said yes it froze at 99 percent and after about 30 mins i gave up. Ive just put my old hard drive back in and that works fine. So is this a sony problem or can i get a replacement or a refund i cant believe it can be a bad hard drive.Heres the item i purchased.

Have you got anyway to see if the drive will format windows ?. It's not abnormal for HDD's to come DOA sometimes.

I did try taking the hard drive out and reformatting it again yesterday and then it just stayed on 1 percent so in the end i put my old hard drive back in. I looked on the net yesterday for similar problems something with regards to dwonloading the latest ps3 update to a usb drive and then trying that. With regards to formatting the drive with windows i wouldnt know where to start doing that. Funny how my old hard drive still works fine.

Plug it into a computer and run SeaTools (download from the Seagate website) to confirm if its faulty or not.

Im not touching it with a computer wouldnt have a clue what to do, just an update for you i tried it again today took out my old hard drive and put the new one in, same problem stuck on 1 percent says reformatting, i phoned sony and spoke to a guy he ran me through some tests and he said for some reason the Ps3 is not accepting it so in the end i have phoned the place where i got it from and i have to send it back to return address and then i will get my refund. I will look around to try and find a decent alternative looking at 200 gb.

Go with Samsung Spinpoint hard drives for a PS3. I've had a 250GB, 500GB and currently on a 1TB. They are very good.
