Quite possibly the most ill-thought out, cockeyed thing I’ve read on these boards since I joined. It would seem , based on your first post, that you have no idea how business works let alone the ins and outs of cinemas.

I can only conclude the thread is meant in jest.

I'm going to open up a Chocolate Factory like Willy Wonka's. Need investors, will probably go bankrupt in a year as it is based on gimmicks and highly unprofitable.

I'll give the chocolate away when some fat kid falls into the chocolate lake and contaminates the entire stock.

This is simply outrageous that I am being mocked. No wonder the economy is collapsing. If it is that difficult for someone to open a smaller business, because the big boys screw us over, we must revolt, and overthrow these fat cats and mickey mouse governments

It is not the big boys screwing you over, unfortunately it is your total lack of business acumen.

A smaller business? A twelve screen multiplex doesn't sound that small.

There's a perfectly good link above which reports on some truly small cinema businesses.

This is the sort of thing we should be standing up against

not mocking budding entrepreneurs because they are just starting out. What is wrong with the world

OP a twelve screen cinema does not count as a small business we are trying to be supportive - if you went to a bank/investors with your idea and attitude you would get laughed out of the bank!
If you want to run your own cinema business why dont you open a two floor cafe with the upstairs being a small cinema screen - you will attract lots of mums and kids for coffee mornings etc and older people with classic films - you wont be able to attract blockbuster films but you will have a niche business
BTW have you done a competitor analysis? Are there lots of cinemas where you are?

There is only one in west Lothian and one in Fife.

That sounds like a good idea. The cafe could specialize in healthy nutritious grub.

You've actuallly made me want to open a cinema lol however instead of cinema style seats I would have comfy sofas and coffee tables so people could have food/drinks etc

There is something similar to this in Manchester - it is a hell lot more expensive than a regular cinema but people seem to like to go for the luxury.
