PH is short for Professor Hero because: A. He was a history professor before the invasion and B. He's the hero Here's the full list I came up with: Professor Hero Doctor Hottie PH's Soldier Son First Blondie Second Blondie Bible Basher Girl PH's Harnessed Son PH's Annoyingly Cute Youngest Son Ex-Cop Soldier Soldier With The Welsh Name Boy Soldier Dr Hottie's Uncle (The Teacher) Dr Hottie's Uncle's Wife (At least I assume she's his wife as she seems to only appear in the same scenes as him) Harness Boy Harness Boy's Dad |

I thought it was pretty good, promising start. Its never going to be a mind blowing series if season one was anything to go by but i'll stick with it because its got some stuff going for it.

Season 2 is still far too schmaltzy: mom, pop and apple-pie, but with an oddly schizophrenic armed-to-the-teeth and kill anything that moves vibe. And now with a large dollop of Alien chucked in.
I've yet to be convinced the whole show is not cynically staged to feed on the paranoia and xenophobia that is everywhere in american society, even now. |

Such a poor show in many ways. Bring back Terra Nova instead!

It was OK this week. A bit more action going on, although very predictable.
And I need a vomit smiley for Prof Superdad's line about how he kept going not through hate but through love. Bleeeuugghhh. |

Is it wrong of me to hope that Bible-Basher Girl's boyfriend gets killed real soon and she loses her faith big time??
Mind you if the death of 90% of the world's population didn't make her lose her faith would one more death make a difference?? |

If it had been up to Pope PH would have been killed as soon as he got back to the 2nd Mass

The question is raised of whether they should have brought him into their camp at all, and their answer is, well, he's been here a few days now so it's fine, and even if it's not it's too late to fix. They were wrong on both counts. Then they find the transforming worm thing, and they're all, well we found it now and there can't be more than one of them. Idiots. He insists on being tied up, but as soon as events get a bit heated he insists on being untied again, making the whole restraints thing pointless. They trust him because they knew from before he was a nice guy. It's like they've forgotten that the aliens have technology to turn children into willing slaves. They do that with visible external harnesses, but some children remain altered even after the harness is removed, and it's clear there is more going on beneath the harness. It grows into them. Given they had the teacher for 3 months, who knows what they could achieve? Oh, and we have that boy tracking aliens by the high-pitched sound they make which only he can hear, and he doesn't mention it to anyone. It seemed he didn't even tell them about the alien he found piloting the craft. Characters not communicating, to spin out the plot longer, is so annoying. |

Wow this show gets some unwarrented heat doesn't it?? Yes its all-american schmaltzy stuff, but actually when you block all that out, it is a fairly decent 45mins of sci-fi. Mason is a ok protagonist, his kids are slightly unbeleivable but likeable enough, and some of the strong female characters are really good.
Few nods to other sci-fi in there aswell, ET. Close encounters etc, but definatly worth a second series, and now glad its got a third.

Let's hope the 2nd Mass isn't going to end up regretting pretty much giving Pope no option but to quit.
The funny thing is that he did a runner in Season 1 as well |
