Series 4
Series 3

small gap

Series 2
Series 1

Huge great yawning chasm

Series 5/6 (each as bad as the other)

But nothing in New Who will beat Season 12 and 13 in Old Who, IMO.....

Agreed! Love those two seasons.

But as for the revived series, here are my choices:

1. Series 5
2. Series 3
3. Series 1
4. Series 6
5. Series 4
6. Series 2

As for the 2009 Specials, or any Christmas Specials, Waters of Mars aside, I don't rate any of them.

Series 4-The Best Series Ever?

It's here, the results are in! Well, I think anyway, I wasnt really sure how to do an actual poll so I just counted each score people gave and, well, I'm not to good at Maths. And that's an understatement But this is what seems to be the general gist of what's on here and I must say I'm quite surprised. In fact, as you'll see from my posts, I really disagree with these results (much prefer The Moff's stuff to the RTD era, and, out of the RTD era, I'd say Series 3 and 1 are actually the BEST with series 2 and 4 being far worse) but we've got to be democratic otherwise we might as well all just go live in North Korea:

If we're just looking at NuWho then it seems the majority seem to think series 4 is the best series of all with series 6coming second and series 5 coming 3rd. Series 5 is followed by series 2 which is followed by series 1 and 3 which seem to be fairly equal-ish.

Finally, it seems that out of the classic series, Season 13 is the most popular. I think this is a quite fair assessment. While I dont hink it is the best and that there are better seasons in the classic series, it is certainly 1 of the best with a very horror-ish feel to the stories and with Tom Baker on top form.

Anyway, what does everyone think. Fair, or not so much?

Decided to contribute my opinion, even if a little late... I put Series 4 on top anyway

1 - Series 4: For me, this is still the highest moment in Doctor Who (not accounting for Classic Who). It had a wonderful balance of 'new' and 'nostalgia' and seemed far more ambitious than the two series before it. There was a wonderful mix of drama and fun, sometimes in the same episode, and it turned Catherine Tate into an absolute star for the show - who'd have guessed that back in 2006? Aside from a disappointing last episode, and maybe The Doctors Daughter, I enjoyed every episode of the series.
High Points: The Adipose proving that not every alien has to be a gnarly killer, the Adipose spaceships, the introduction of River Song, Agatha Christie, Midnight, the Children of Time element in The Stolen Earth, Donna.

2 - Series 1: Even watching this now, you get the feeling that it is something special. Series 1 was a hugely refreshing take on a tired franchise, and Christopher Eccleston made for a great self-loathing, genocidal Doctor. Billie Piper was great as well, as was John Barrowman...it's a shame we didn't get more of this platonic trio that balanced the sci fi and the drama so perfectly. Aside from the odd burping bin and farting alien, this was a series which stands up tall as one of the finest to me, and in my opinion, still has the best final episode of any series to date.
High Points: The Emperor Dalek and the whole Bad Wolf conclusion, Harriet Jones, the actually intimidating Daleks, "Are you my Mummy?", the introduction of Captain Jack, Nine's regeneration scene.

3 - Series 6: When the weakest episodes are still generally considered to be quite good, you know a series has done well. Series 6 was a lot more divisive among people, for a number of different reasons. For me, I couldn't give two hoots about the convoluted, badly paced, and frankly dull story arc for the series - Madame Kovarian and River Song were brilliant, but the plots themselves were a little ludicrous, and wrapping up an ongoing plot with the 45 minute finale we got felt cheap to me. But I like Series 6 on the basis of its standalone episodes, as most of them are exceedingly strong. The Doctor's Wife, The Girl Who Waited and The God Complex are all instant classics to me, and I really like The Curse of the Black Spot and Night Terrors too. Closing Time was a bit naff, but it still had a strong identity and for that it can't be faulted. And despite my opinion of said story arc, Lets Kill Hitler was a wonderful blend of fun and drama that really put the series further up the list for me.
High Points: River Song is amazing, Karen Gillan getting some real emotional scenes, Madame Kovarian, some real classic episodes in there, The Siren was a great 'villain', A Christmas Carol is one of the finest Christmas specials and finest episodes of all.

4 - Series 2: A series that struggles to impress many, but I think people greatly exagerrate the Ten/Rose issue...and I say that as someone who preferred Nine/Rose. The start of the series had some really brilliant episodes, fron New Earth through to The Girl in the Fireplace. My three issues with the series are - too much Mickey, too many Cybermen episodes, too many 'London' episodes - four in a row at the end of the series - it felt like the budget was really limited for this series, despite it going really strong at the start. It still pulls off a great variety of stories, and though a couple near the end don't do very much for me, I loved the series as a whole.
High Points: Tooth and Claw was action-packed, Sarah Jane became adored by a whole new generation within 45 minutes, Madame de Pompadour, Jake, The Beast was a terrific villain, the finale was really impressive if only a little cheapened by the fact that we'd had two 'London' episodes prior, Jackie, the beach scene I guess.

5 - Series 5: A breath of fresh air for the show, Series 5 had a lot of ups and downs. I really enjoyed the first couple of episodes, and even the Dalek episode was enjoyable through all of its faults. But the Angel story disappointed by cheapening the Angels a little and also abandoning them in favour of the crack in the wall. The Silurian story was dull and it felt detached from the rest of the series, and whilst I loved Amy's Choice and The Lodger, they really don't show what the series is capable of. Vampires of Venice and Vincent and the Doctor were personal highlights, but I just wish we were able to emotionally warm to the characters a little more, and for the lack of that, I can't rank the series quite so high.
High Points: River Song again, Liz Ten, the angel on the screen scene, Van Gogh, Doctor Black, the Stonehenge scene, the Stone Dalek.

5 - Series 3: I thought it was sad that Rose was gone, but I didn't miss her. I was freshly anticipating Martha, and the opening Judoon episode, as much as I disliked it, was promising for her. But too long was spent in the series moping over Rose, and putting Martha down. In fact, the series spends a lot of time separating the two leads so we get very little chemistry between them - Gridlock separated them, The Lazarus Experiment did for a long while, the whole point of Human Nature/The Family of the Blood for Martha was that he was separated, Blink, and then Jack comes in for the final trilogy further denying them character development. What's more was that the series took pain-achingly long to get going - aside from Gridlock, nothing before 42 was at the top of the game or sometimes even remotely impressive. The finale was let down by a poor resolution, which is a shame as it was otherwise quite strong, as was much of the latter half of the series. But as a whole, I did feel ultimately let down by Series 3.
High Points: The Motorway, Dalek Sec was intriguing, I really liked 42, the concept of 'John Smith' was great but I wasn't a fan of the Family of Blood, Blink - angels and Sally Sparrow!!! - Professor Yana, the fugitive-feel to the finale.

6 - The Specials: Not one of the specials was without major flaws. Planet of the Dead and The Waters of Mars are the only two I can enjoy at all. The former is impressive for its filming in Dubai and it is certainly ambitious from a production point of view. The latter is enjoyable because of the relentless tragedy it brings to the screen as it almost spares no survivors. But none aside perhaps WoM had a particularly strong story, and The End of Time was one big babbling mess - no amount of Bernard Cribbins, Catherine Tate or Timothy Dalton could save the day. The Next Doctor also became incredibly dull as soon as the whimsical edge was taken away from David Morrissey. And above all else, I think David Tennant became incredibly annoying - his acting became somewhat smug, and then the story did him no favours, nor did his final line. A truly disappointing year.
High Points: Dervla Kirwan was brilliant, Lindsey Duncan was amazing, Bernard Cribbins was fantastic. WoM had a rather decent plot and it was great to see a "future celebrity", the Ten/Wilf cafe scene.

1). Series 1: new, fresh, and a great Doctor / Rose combo. The most witty of the series to date.
2). Series 4: slightly overblown ending, but otherwise very consistent all the way through, with Midnight and Turn Left being two of the all-time great episodes. Factor in the fantastic Donna Noble, UNIT, and Davros, what's not to like?
3). Series 3: an average first half which is then blown out of the water by a stupendous final run of 6 episodes. Probably Tennant's best season as the Doctor, helped by the underrated Martha.
4). Series 5: probably the most beautifully shot of all the new series, it was refreshing to get out of London and into the country. Matt Smith rocks as the quirky and alien new doctor, but Amy Pond is a big irritant, a loud-mouthed, dislikeable companion.
5). Series 2: Tennant takes a while to find his feet as the new doctor, not helped by the (hardly) subtle love interest from Rose. The knowing smugness of their relationship is incredibly irritating and overshadows some decent episodes.
6). Series 6: not without its good points - namely Matt Smith - but obscenely complicated at times, to the point of turning me off.

1)Series 5. My all time favorite. Matt Smith excels as The Doctor, finding his feet very quickly. Although some old enemies did return, Moffat preferred creating new ones, which was definitely a high point.
2)Series 4. RTD's best. Tennant and Tate were brilliant, the stories rocked, and The Stolen Earth was perhaps the greatest penultimate episode New Who has had, though it was let down somewhat by Journeys End, but hey, what COULD live up to an episode like TSE?
3)Series 6. I believe that the Series 6 Regular/recurring cast were the strongest new who has ever had. However, they are let down somewhat by the occasional dodgy script.
4)Series 1. My first ever season. The moment I watched the first episode, I loved the show. Eccleston was a great Doctor, and as good as Tennant is, I wish he could have done more. Looking back on the series, I think it could have done without the Doctor/Rose love story (though admitidly it was more subtle then it was with the Tenth Doctor)>
5)Series 3. David and Freema were excellent in this season, though some episodes were somewhat boring, it should be notable for featuring the greatest New Who episode to date-Blink.
6)The not-so-special-Specials. I can't say I enjoyed the specials much, with the exception of the second half of WoM and the first half of TEOT part 2, these episodes were terrible. The one thing that annoyed me most was that it butchered the concept of regeneration (or at least attempted to, Moffat appears to have got it back on track).
7)Series 2. Whilst this season has some high points (the return of Sarah Jane and the Cybermen, the ood two parter), the Ten/Rose pairing annoyed me, overdoing the love story (whilst it was annoying in Series 1, at least it was more subtle) and making them exceedingly smug was a bad move, but what really clinched it for me was that they made the Cybermen awesome again, only to put them up against the Daleks in the finale, which turned them back into the laughing stock they were in the eighties.

1) Series 6
2) Series 5
3) Series 4
4) Series 3
5) Series 2
6) Specials (minus 'Waters of Mars;, because that is one of my favourite Tennant episodes!)
7) Series 1

So mainly, the series just keep getting better and better for me! But I'm not too sure Series 7 will follow the same pattern..
