The teacher becomes the pupil
What would you think if a dancing on ice pro becomes a student on strictly or a strictly pro becomes a canidate on dancing on ice? I mean it would be interesting to see. They have been trained in a lot of way how to move, however they would have different problems as they must unlearn and newly learn new dances. i think it would be fun to watch and i couldn't wait for Frankie from dancing on ice to do a charleston. (her face would so own that dance.) I would love that idea.

Wasn't Matthew Cutler a rumour for the 2010 series of Dancing On Ice? I don't think it would be fair, because they already are a professional dancer, granted they aren't a skilled ballroom or ice dancer but they'll be leagues ahead of the others.

Kristi Yamaguchi and Evan Lysacek have both done the American version.
Personally, I think it was obvious that Kristi was a bit of a ringer. She was very precise - hand placement etc from the beginning. I know there were obvious obstacles to overcome, but I think it was a bit unfair on the other contestants. I do feel that she was almost too precise though; there was very little performance/emotion when she danced. Evan's Ballroom was good, although his Latin lacked rhythm. |

Ray Quinn was a ballroom dancer in his youth - I think he was very successful at it but he didn't become a pro - he's done DOI and won it.........Jeremy Sheffield was a ballet dancer he didn't do so well because he got injured.
I doubt if many Strictly pros would do DOI even if given the chance - you can get a serious injuries on that show and is it really worth risking your career for? I could see an ice skater wanting to do strictly though.....but I don't think the BBC would use the DOI skaters.....I think they'd more likely ask a skater that hasn't taken part in DOI. |

I actually remember asking Flavia the question if the two shows crossed for a 'Special' would she rather teach a DOI skater ballroom and latin, or learn skating from a DOI pro and she said she would prefer to learn skating from a DOI pro. I think they would probably all choose to learn a new skill if it came to it.
![]() ETA : Reading Topaz post though, possibly if it actually came to reality, then a dancer probably would be cautious and would have to think of the injury aspect. ETA 2 : :Although for saying that, very few normal celebs get injured on DOI, so there is probably less chance of a pro dancer being seriously injured as they already know how to hold themselves if they feel like they are falling etc I think..... Actually I would still say that Flavia would go for it if the opportunity came about as she is a bit of a risk taker! |

As someone who both skates and dances I'd say that it's easier to transfer from the ice to the floor than the other way around. I've taken friends who have danced for years to the rink and they've struggled, particularly with the idea of constant knee bend and letting their skates do the work.
With a skater transferring to the floor I think it depends completely on the skater. Kristi Yamaguchi was always a fantastic dancer on the ice - she had pushed herself to try a huge variety of styles in her pro years and her years on Stars on Ice had given her loads of showmanship. There are skaters I can think of who are more "technicians" who I think would have trouble doing as good a job as she managed. I would love to see one of the SCD pros on DOI. The girls would find the lifts a breeze but it'd be interesting to see how they coped with the skating aspect. Personally I'd love to see Flavia do it; her body type is totally suited to pairs skating and she's always struck me as a bit of a dare devil with the lifts and throws she's done on Strictly so I don't think she'd be scared. |

although I'd still worry about the risks. I think the skater on DOI I'd most like to see Flav with would be Daniel Whiston.......he's been my favourite skater on that show ever since his brilliant partnership with Hayley Tamaddon and I think he and Flavia would work so well together.....they would be like fire and ice.....excuse the corny pun although I would have to watch through my fingers if they attempted the headbanger
