Does this new offline maps feature work for the whole of the UK or just large Cities? - i'm in Cambridgeshire.

This new Google Nexus 7 tablet has GPS, does that mean you can navigate your way around using GPS with the offline map??

Judging from experience with my Android phone, this should work so long as (a) you cached enough mapping data and (b) you don't have to turn off the device. If you did turn off the device, it wouldn't have the driving directions necessary.

Just trying the offline cache on my phone (Nexus running Jelly Bean). It seems to allow about 100mb of caching. What this will cover will depend on how much detail is on the map i guess.

Taking an example in the UK it looks to let me store a box around london out to Luton (North), Maidstone (East), Horsham (South), Bracknell (West).

Its a fairly big area to be fair.

You can't use turn-by-turn navigation offline, but provided you have stored the map offline you can navigate around it in the old-fashioned way, with the added bonus of knowing where you are at all times.

That's a huge area. It will suffice for 99% of what I need it for.

So the offline maps feature only works in the London area then? Im in Cambridgeshire.

No it works for any area. Stuart was giving an example of how much map data it can cache locally.

I believe the maps are at tile level so maybe not down to street level and cover the entire country.

You can cache any area of your choosing to a maximum if 80 to 100 MB EACH.... you can cache more than one map area !!!

I only used the London area as an example for sizing.

Navfree does provide turn by turn navigation on Android
