Lots of food is really nice made simply, but does bacon make everything significantly better?

Burger=yes

Macaroni cheese=yes

Any kind of salad=yes

Cornflakes=Nah, maybe not?

Any kind of Pizza=yes

Chilli=yes

Beef stew=yes

What else is made better/worse by adding bacon?

Apart from butties and fryups I now prefer smoked streaky.
Lovely with maple syrup or candied and works on doughnuts and cupcakes.

I love bacon, but no, I do not think it goes with everything. I certainly don't think it would go with beef stew.

I think it would! I've never made it before but I think that beef and red wine stew would be really nice with bits of crispy bacon in it. I'm gonna do it soon.

You may be thinking of a beef stew with rashers of bacon on the top.

You can use lardons of smoked bacon or pancetta and fry it off with the onions, carrots & celery.
A very nice base for a bolognaise/ragu which isn't too dissimilar to a stew.

I would like to eat bacon because its delicious but don't eat it because of the amount of chemicals added to it e.g. sodium nitrate.

So I voted No.

Covering a Chicken with Bacon when roasting, then using any Chicken left over to make a Chicken, Bacon and Stuffing sandwich.

Just thought of a new one, Steak with bacon and mushrooms and rosemary. And loads of ground black pepper of course.

With mash sweet or new potatoes. Or maybe both.

Yes emphatically!!

I had cauliflower cheese as we ate out today..... and it was topped with crispy bits of bacon.
It improved it tenfold!

I love bacon, but i'm a purist, i just want a bacon sandwich with ketchup and no other interference! I don't even like adding an egg to my bacon sandwich.

Never had boeuf bourgignon?

However, don't think it would go well with chocolate.

As a veggie my first thought is to back out of the thread and go and eat a carrot but my husband is a meat eater and he agrees bacon does make many things nicer lol

Article from 4 years ago, some people disagree

I like bacon, but sometimes people do it all wrong. When it is on a pizza and it is a lump of fat - it makes me feel ill. And a friend made me a bacon butty and the fat was so chewy and stretchy. I didn't eat another bacon butty in years.

I would definitely like to try it what I call the American way, with syrup and pancakes - but I am sure they must do something different to the bacon

They don't really have back bacon.
They have the eye of the back/loin which they call Canadian bacon.

From what i've seen on tv shows if they have unsmoked they call it pancetta.

The rest is smoked streaky. Over here we may have general smoked, oak smoked, applewood smoked etc, but they have many more options including hickory smoked and maple smoked etc.

It's easy to cook crispy.
Take a tray and line with greaseproof.
Lay out the rashers.
Cover with another layer of greaseproof and add a another tray on top.
Put into a preheated oven for 10/15 minutes.

If you want you can cover with maple syrup or sugar to make candied bacon.
