I loved it, the cinematography and soundtrack really enhanced the movie

Its a good movie, but perhaps a little overrated. It tried a bit too hard to be cool.

You are aware you have just done exactly what you seem to be berating the OP for?

Maybe it is overrated crap. YOU just liked it.

For the record, I haven't seen it. But, seriously, you look massively hypocritical. Having a go at the OP for stating their opinion as fact, then doing the same yourself.

People that say it's overrated, boring, not enough action or dialogue etc. don't really appreciate artistic film making and are probably better served by the usual predictable, formulaic drivel that hollywood regularly serves up. It's not overrated, it's just not your cup of tea and effectively wasted on you.

Agreed, the story is very simplistic, but if you appreciate stunning cinematography, atmospheric design and a stylish soundtrack then this is the movie for you. If you prefer paint by numbers blockbusters then my advice is stay away.

The movie was better than most, a marvelous accomplishment for Ryan Reynolds who brought the project apparently to the director where it had languished for some years with a studio wanting to develop it as a project for Russel Crowe.

One drawback - the original soundtrack was ditched, leaving I think only Kavinsky and Lovefoxxx's "Nightcall" during the opening credits.

I think that Symmetry (Johnny Jewel and Nat Walker) (2011) released an extended CD for the intended soundtrack within "Themes for an imaginary film"

But, nonetheless a stylish movie.

Not sure whether it could be considered to be superior to "The Driver" featuring Ryan O'Neill and Bruce Dern, but I still consider it a good movie.

I always think it's a bad idea to go and watch a movie just because a lot of people,, critics, friends etc say it is brilliant, without finding out a little about the film from other sources, reading a review or two maybe to get an idea for not just what the plot is, but also for the general style, feel and tone of the film.

And with a movie like this it is essential, because if you go by the plot alone, you would expect a violent car chase movie, which it clearly is not.

This is a film which depends a lot on style, mood and atmosphere rather than stunts and CGI.

Also, the decision for Ryan Gosling's character to be very low key and unemotional is very deliberate...you could level the same criticism at Ryan O Neal's Driver in the film of the same name, which it clearly resembles. To criticise such a performance for being 'wooden' is to completely miss the point.

To be honest, if you go into a film like this blind and expect something completely different from it because of what you have been told by others, then at least have the decency to say 'OK...I understand what the filmakers were trying to do...but it's not for me and I didn't enjoy it'.

But to slam it, rubbish it and call it a bad film? OK, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but frankly this 'I didn't like/get/understand it so it's crap' attitude is pathetic.

Also wanted to say to those who have not yet seen it, the hollywood stunt driver aspect of the plot is completely incidental, and not really integral to the story.

For me, I like to go and see a film with a open mind which I did with this film. I liked Ryan Gosling in the films The Notebook and Stupid, Crazy, Love and I wanted to see what he had to offer to this film. He was fantastic and I did enjoy Carey Mulligan acting.

I like the mood, atomsphere and soundtrack of the film.

If you want to see a great film called Drive see the one starring Mark Dacascos - one of the best US martial arts films you'll see.

But what if, after listening to those who think they are qualified to give an opinion, you judge that their description of a film's good qualities are thoroughly out of touch with the reality of the film, once you've watched it? For instance, I'll never watch Taxi Driver again - just think it's a dull, dour, navel-gazing 'Death Wish' vigilante movie.

Tis a good film that from the criminally underated Mark Dacascos his 2nd best film after Crying Freeman.

I was never fussed about Drive (2011) but i picked it up cheap on BluRay and was well impressed, stylish as hell excellent soundtrack & brilliant performance from Gosling.

Obviously, those who like the film will just think your assessment of it's bad qualities is completely out of touch with reality. Goes both ways.

Drive starts out solidly enough but vacuous style wins out over plot substance. Depth is not the same as looking cool in portentous shots.

The Italians were lazy cardboard stereotypes: related to the mob, vicious psychopaths etc. Follow that with silent hero, no way out, sacrifice for love, etc. The cliches just couldn't stop once they started.

Even the action turned silly; especially ramming a large chauffeur driven luxury saloon sideways off a beach cliff with a lightweight sports model.

It is not a bad film, IMO, it just failed to develop its initial promise.

I've got to admit in my personal opinion (notice how we all have to say that now to avoid personal character assassinations?) I did not not like it at all.

I was actually surprised as it was recommended to me by a number of people, one of which really rated "Memento" but said it was better! Not to me it wasn't ...

I thought I was being quite tolerant this year but "Drive" , "The Grey" and (especially) "The Amazing Spider-Man" drove me up the wall. but practically everybody I know loves 'em!

Oh well! Swings and roundabouts...
I liked "Prometheus" and had to defend that to my friends.
At least when it gets violent, my social group agrees that they all loved "Avengers" ...
