I have to agree with you, sky are very exspensive, and now there is so many channels FTA it does make sky seem even more exspensive.

Virgin or BT are good alternative to sky and there packages seem a lot more easy to pick what you want in the way of channels

Although I find plenty to watch on FREESAT

I wanted to try Virgin, but as I am not in one of their special areas, it would cost (for roughly the same) about £30 / £35 pm more than Sky! value indeed.

As for freesat, too little choice in what I can watch, all FTA stuff, that by default has to be yonks old (apart from the PSB channels)

Another unbiased comment from me yes , some people only ever say good thing's about sky,
I have no complaint with VIRGIN or BTso that's good,

One day soon I may say something good about a satalite pay TV provider?

But I am pleased you are happy with sky

Sky One & Sky Atlantic have exclusive dramas.
If you want films then watch then in FULL HD, unlike Sky on Blu-ray, much cheaper than Sky and you can get the films you want rather than what Sky want you to watch.

Also wait till the drama's come out on Blu-ray too, get it in FULL HD.

Unfortunately many series don't come out on Blu-Ray, some don't come out on DVD or blu-ray, and you can't be certain when they will come out. Series on DVD or blu-ray can be quite expensive as well.

For me the main advantage of payTV (Sky) is the live sport in HD (both Sky Sports and ESPN) and the first run US drama series on various channels. Plus the wide choice of HD programming generally. So I think it's worth it- certainly less so if I wasn't into those things.

As with so many things in life what is good for one person is no good for another. Thankfully we have a choice.

All the best ones do and when you hire them its not expensive at all.

Yes Sports I agree, but you cannot get the sports you have to take a basic package as well at the cost of £20.

Hear what you say but I prefer to watch content on conventional tv channels through Sky etc rather than what for me would be the hassle of renting DVDs or blu rays. I get what I want from my Sky World package so I am happy. I like having all the channels that are covered by the package available at my finger tips whenever I want.

Surely that is everyone's choice, they either pay or they don't. I happen to enjoy the sport and am happy to pay. If you are happy to fart around down at the video shop instead then fine. I really couldn't give a shiny one and don't see why you even started the debate.

This is a forum for discussions, if you dont want to discuss then dont.

I dont know anyone that uses a video shop, online DVD and Blu-ray rental.

I'd put it as simply as this:

If you like sports and movies, pay TV is worth it. On the other hand, if you don't care about either, pay TV is _not_ worth it.

I would have thought if you liked movies then paytv isnt the best option. DVD/Blu-ray rental would be, as you can pick the exact movies you want to watch and see them weeks/months before they even appeared on Sky movie channels.

At what price? Not full HD either.
If you want a sub standard product then fair enough.

That's a question only the individual can answer , looking through my Sky+HD planner and I have 3 series links from the terrestrial channels all the rest are pay TV channels so for me I'd miss my pay TV , I will agree however that pay TV is beginning to get expensive.

If you are into the whole shabang or like lots of football then fine but you are clobbered otherwise. I had a look at Sky's tennis coverage which they are strong in August but are spread across all the 4 sports channels.

If you can live without live EPL then ITV has enough football.

Given your sudden obsession with HD pray tell just how much of that you get with Freeview, freesat and BTVision.

No ITV 2/3/4 HD, no E4 HD, no ESPN HD, no Dave HD, no Sky News HD (all on Sky but not your providers where you have to make do with SD), no Film 4 HD (on Virgin). Never mind all the other Entertainment, Lifestyle, Movie, Sport and Docs HD channels.

Still, if you want a sub standard product then fair enough.

No channels in 3D but does have a selection of films in 3D. So just as much as any other provider. Plus I am talking about DVD/Blu-ray rental.

I am referring to films! Which you can hire on Blu-ray in proper HD not a washed down version Sky offer.
