Firmware update
Hello Again,
Thanks so much for both your help...you are indeed! However I have tried to apply the firmware update and it appears to go through the process but my box will not turn back on and just has a green standby light. I have tried using two different USB sticks and followed instructions on Channel Zero site and still no joy. Any ideas? I not new to this sort of thing as own a Kryptview A750 but it doesn't seem to want to play ball. My model is STBHDIS2010 according to manual. |

Ok so as my box wasn't booting I tried downgrading to the original 161 from the official website and all says success. It then goes to a green light and no text on the box and won't boot. I have tried disconnecting the power and it shows msg CrC then still won't boot. Any idea what is going on?

Hmm, it sounds like either you've bricked it or are not following the instructions exactly; I'm not sure what to suggest.

Last msg! It is actually a STBHDIS2010HY....will that make a difference? Would have thought the official firmware would work though!

ok so I had a look at your posts, formatted in windows xp and using fat32 special software and tried two different sticks. It is picking up the USB stick and installing the firmware and looks like completing the process but then my box will not show standby and just say crc if power off and on then blank display. It may indeed be bricked. I only bought it 2 weeks ago so it will be going back as if i cant install the official firmware without it bricking the box not much good for future proofing! I find it ironic that I can jailbreak iphone, apple tv and update kryptview but this box dies on me trying a simple usb update!

A bit worrying if applying a firmware update results in bricking the box. Not sure it's worth the risk.

1) Are you following the instructions correctly? 2) Are you leaving the box long enough to complete the update? (about 10 minutes) -> "Simply Unzip the attached file to the root, e.g. F:\ of a USB drive formatted at FAT32. This will create a directory called HYLAB_7105 which will contain a single file with an extension .USB. Remove power from the STB. Insert the USB memory device in to the USB slot on the rear of the set top box. Restore power to the set top box WHILST pressing and holding the menu button on the front panel until you see USB appear on the front panel. The updated BETA software will now be installed automatically. This will take a few minutes. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE USB DEVICE OR REMOVE POWER TO THE BOX UNTIL THE UPDATE IS COMPLETE AND THE BOX GOES IN TO STANDBY. When the update is complete the box will reboot and go in to a standby state indicated by STBY in the front panel. Wake-up (switch on) the box from standby and re-tune the box as per instructions on the screen." Good luck, Chris. |

It will not work if you only have the .USB file in the root. Good luck. I confirm that it is an excellent, cheap box with good picture quality. The iPlayer works very well. I don't know if we will get a further release of the firmware to support ITVPlayer, 4OD etc, but I don't tend to watch that commercial rubbish much anyway. M |

I had the CrC message on the first attempt at upgrading, although the box continued to function, just hadn't updated the firmware.
I copied the update folder onto a different USB flash drive, retried with that, and it worked ok. Both flash drives were already FAT32 formatted, but the one that failed was actually a micro SD card in a USB adaptor, so maybe there was something there that it wasn't happy about. Ian |

Several people on here have the "beta release" of the 0225 version that was sent by email so if you do not get one with it, ask nicely on here again. |

I've sent a couple more PMs for the 0221 software, meanwhile if anyone has the 0225 software in downloadable form, perhaps they could PM me then I can update my link with a later version (I already have 0226 on my 2 boxes so it wouldn't be for me).

I would hope they update the box's software over the air sometime soon - just like other digital set-top boxes. I keep an eye on the DTG download page and live in hope.

To anyone to whom I have previously sent a link: replace 0221 with 0225 in the link for version 0225 (thanks to Gerry).

Not good. I'm getting Er65 (with the 6 reversed, so it could be a d) then FUSE.
Help! |
