Women: Is it ok for a boyfriend to tell you his problems?

Ok first off, I don't want to paint myself as needy orr anything- well, not mega needy anyway
I was just wondering what you think about a boyfriend talking to you about some of his problems? I'm not talking about in the relationship- just general life stuff?

I only ask because I have a few problems with some people at work and was pretty down about it earlier this morning (I start at 4.30am) so I was just telling her about it. I don't do it often and she's always really supportive- she has depression too and I have told her she can talk to me about it any time.

I'm just worried I might sound annoying or pathetic if I mention stuff to her like that. Am I best keeping stuff like this to myself and maintaining some on the surface bravado so she doesn't think I am a wimp? She always says she likes to listen and I can talk to her about anything, but maybe she is just being polite?

Anyway girls, I would like to hear your opinions on it. Thanks

Not a problem at all to me. Relationships are all about support. A problem shared is a problem halved and all that

I would rather he do so - thats what I am there for the good and the bad and to be his partner in life.

Thanks for the responses.

I sent the text early and I thought she'd still be in bed but she already responded and was really supportive again, so I feel a lot better now

If a Partner doesn't tell you their problems, it's time to end your relationship. Same goes if your Partner doesn't want to hear yours.

Thats what partners and friends are for, both men and women need to be able to talk about their problems.

Agree with all the above. What's the point of being in a relationship if you can't share your thoughts and concerns?

who are you supposed to talk about it then ?

If she doesn't want to hear them then it may be time to move on.

I would feel quite upset if my partner felt unable to talk about their problems. Support is mutual.

I would argue men need the support of their partners more than women as bloke mates are not very receptive to things like problems and struggles whereas women tend to a lot kinder and willing to help to their friends.

That's true. Though I do have close friends who are similar to me, I still feel more comfortable talking to a woman about certain things, in general, especially one I am close to.

Another thing about close friends is that they've known you for years. Sometimes I find it more difficult to open up to someone I've known for years because they often have a very solid perception of you and revelations are more of a surprise as a result.

I wouldn't share my work-related problems with her if I were you. It'll just give her something else to worry about.

Go to the pub with a mate and you can bitch and moan about your work and you can listen to his moans about his work. I know it solves nothing, but it gets it off your chest and problems seem to be so much simpler to resolve when drunk.

I don't think you can have a deep meaningful relationship if you don't share also the worries on your mind and the pains of your soul. Of course there is a time and a place, but if you want a future with someone, you need to let them in.

So, yes, it is more than okay, these things can bring you closer together. Just make sure you balance it by also sharing the good stuff
