The inputs on the back of the hdpvr are the bottom ones, marked "IN" at the far side. What audio leads are plugged in - optical or phonos? You will need to select the relevant one in the arcsoft software. I don't know what leads you've got but as long as you have a power lead, USB lead, video in and audio in you should be OK.

I have tried recording a few things, but have noticed a very small stutter in the recordings, which as you said could be because i have the preview on. However when i rewind the Sky box the stutter happens at the exact same moments in the recording every time. I cant see the stutter on the TV, only on the PC.

How old is your pc? Maybe it can't cope with hd video. Try recording without the preview on.
What player are you using to play back your recordings? Do you have a good graphics card? I use videolan and there is an option in one of the menus to enable hardware acceleration. Try ticking that box too.

You can see the stutter on all players, i've tried playing it on 4 or 5 different ones, and its the same. I notice the stutter in the preview while it's recording also.

I have recorded the same thing 3 or 4 times and It isnt just random stutters, as it happens at the exact same moments every time.

So how old/fast is your pc?

If you want to check your recording, download TSPE. Do a recording in .ts format. Run TSPE and open your recording. Once it's opened the recording, click on SCAN. If there is anything wrong with the recording it will show up in the box on the bottom right of the screen.

Ok will try that thanks. Only bought the computer a couple of years ago, and it isnt slow and runs well, so dont know what the problem is.

And on an unrelated note, on the HDPVR, i have the pc audio mode set to '5.1 channels' rather than '2 channel stereo'. Searching about and most people have it on 2 channel stereo. Which one should it be on?

Need to try and get everything as good as possible

Have you any other high definition footage that you can play back on your pc? A download perhaps? That should tell if your pc can display a hd file properly or not.
Fortunately you don't need a fast pc for the recording as its compressed and sent up the usb lead. So hopefully tspe should not give any errors.
pc audio mode - I think that depends on your pc - do you have 5.1 speakers? I don't think it affects recordings at all. Mine is set to 2 channels but recordings are 5.1 when 5.1 is available.

For BBC programmes I have been very impressed with the way Replay Media Catcher captures the 720p streams from iPlayer. You can then play the .flv files direct in compatible players like XBMC or convert to whatever.

Downside is you have to record in real time.

Another problem i have is when i'm recording, the entire screen turns green for a few seconds before returning to normal. So frustrating as i have to keep starting recordings over again

Quick question: does anyone have experience with both hdfury 2 & 3 - are there any reasons to favour 3 over 2, i can afford either, just wondering if 3 is really worth the extra or if i should just take the cheaper option.

Mine doesn't do that. When you installed total media extreme and ran it, did it do an update over the web? My version is 1.0.9.9. Click on the words Total Media Extreme in the first screen to tell you your vesion.
When I click on capture, I have to wait a couple of seconds before it starts recording.
Have you tries turning hardware acceleration off? You don't need it for recording.
Perhaps your graphics driver isn't up to date?

Anyway, check the file with tspe - that will tell you if your recording is almost certainly OK if nothing appears in the bottom right hand box.

It is Total Media Extreme 2.

I uploaded a video to youtube to show you the problem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8RTIh48w48

annoyance - I don't know if the picture quality is better with the 3 or not - have a look at their website. I haven't got a 3 so can't compare.

Paul Chuckle - that looks like a video dropout - I do get the occasional one and mine is blue not green! Nothing to do with your pc. Does it do it every time? Try doing half an hour and running it through tspe. That will tell you how many dropouts you are getting. You shouldn't get any - I can record 2-3 hours with none normally.

Have you got anything else that you can plug into the hdpvr? dvd or blu-ray player perhaps and try recording from that.
Does the blue light on the hdfury2 go out or stay on all the time? If it goes out or flashes then its lost its connection to the sky box temporarily.

Seems like it may have been the HDMI splitter causing the problem. I plugged the HDMI cable from the Sky box directly into the HDfury, and managed to record a whole 3 hours without any problems. It aint ideal but at least it works.

Although i do still have the problem of those 'stutters'. It's barley noticable, but it's annoying as heck! I've noticed, or at least it's more visible, directly after a change of camera angle in the scenes,

you lot do seem to make this HD recording a bit over complicated...
I have One of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ls_o04_s00_i01

One Of These:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ls_o03_s00_i00

One Of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ls_o04_s00_i00

only other thing you need is small portable Hard drive or a 32GB Memory stick to transfer your recordings to your PC, where you can edit them or simply just store them.. it all sits tidily wired up to my Sky box and I just switch it on to record using the remote from the comfort of my armchair, no need for wires and computer more powerful then NASA..
The Results are excellent too!

Almost perfect, shame there's no 5.1 ch sound, if i was wanting HD picture, i would want the best sound to, but that's just me.

Yes it's a shame there's no 5.1 audio on that one. Once it's set up the hauppauge box is good but yes you do need a pc connected to it. It doesn't need to be fast for capturing the video, but it does need to reasonably fast for playing back the recordings. I use a wdtv for playback so it doesn't matter to me.
Glad you've got it to work - you could try another splitter - that's a simliar problem I had with my neet one. I don't know why you're getting stutters - sorry can't help there. It may be in the playback rather than the recording.

Paul, have you used tspe to check your 3 hour recording? Did it throw up any errors? If not then I reckon the recording is ok and it's just stuttering on your pc. Of course, I could be wrong....

The only times it gives me errors are the parts where i'm fast-forwarding through the adverts, so that isnt even really an error!
