If you use Disc Name in Disc Management to wirite a title of the disc ad then set it and never use it and then write another title over the top of it, it will it erase the origional name and can use use the disc to record on and finalise without any problems?

Until you finalise the disc, you can change the disc name (and any of the titles on the disc's name) to your hearts content. It is only when the disc is finalised that the titles of the disc and the episodes are cast in stone.

I don't know what's happened but I bought 50 Hyundai DVD-R's from Pound Land and out of 50 of them I have successfully burnt but others have failed.

50 blank DVD's for £1 are probably the reason why....

no it was 50 for £5.99 I will go with a reputable like Sony or Memorex.

LOL did not think that pound land had anything priced at £5.99 !

Just thinking about the age of the ES10 -- its very likely that the laser is starting to age and resulting in failed recordings rather that defective discs . I have replaced quite a few of these in newer machines to very good effect .

Ok that's sounds fair it is actually 5 years old. I wonder if I can get a Samsung DVD Recorder that uses HDMI?

Just tried to record another one but it as received a Disc Error.

I had a DMRES10 and that was about 6 years ago when it was being discontinued... the laser failed after about 18 months and having only played a few dozen DVD's and burning about the same. I was very dispointed that this happened and it seems very common.

FIrst it was DVDram discs that failed to record then shortly it was DVD-r and then it would fail to play or record anything.

I am worried now as I only have 3 films left on the planner that they will not record (I have 62% Remaining). I have put the DVD back to Shipping Conditions so hopefully that will make a difference.

Clean the laser by all means but you have quite a lot of dismantling to get to it but the root cause of your probs will be the laser . If you see a worn one light up and then see a new laser the difference is huge . Do NOT look directly at the laser , view it from 2 feet away ! it is a DIY job ( parts bought new on Ebay ) if you are both careful and mechanically minded .

PS ES10 was made only during 2005 !!

When I reset the DVD Recorder to Factory settings then Shipping Conditions I was able to record the film directly onto DVD without any problems at all.

The DVDs that have failed, seem to have nothing written on them. It records to them and then stops. I don't finalise them and when I go into Disc Navigation nothing appears to recorded on them yet when I turn them over I can see the image of something burnt to it.

Is there a way I can erase this and use again.

Only if you used RW rewriteable blanks. DVD-R and DVD+R are write once only.

If the laser is broken, you'll still be able to get a few quid for the ES10 on eBay.

It contains a half-decent TBC, which is useful when transferring old VHS tapes to PC - you just use the ES10 as a loop through device.

I suspect the discs are ruined, I had this when my laser started to fail, it basically makes some drinks coasters.

Can't I erase them?. Its odd that I record the same film on one disc and fails but when I record the same film onto another disc it worked.

(I did restore to Factory and Shipping conditions - but didn't have to do this oftern)

No you can't erase a dvd-r or a dvd+r disk. That would make them a dvd-rw or dvd+rw disk which they're not.
