Aqua Vs Vengaboys

Ok, ok... so I know it's 2012!!
Just imaging for a sec we're back in 1998!!
Enjoying the likes of Dr. Jones & Boom,Boom,Boom etc.

But now, that it's 2012 which cheesy group do you think had the better collection of hits!?

AQUA or VENGABOYS?

Which was your favourite song by either act?

Both horrendous... makes me proud that this country didn't produce either.

I actually liked them both back in 1998-99!!!!!

Looking back now, I liked Aqua better. They had more catchy songs, in my opinion. They released a new studio album last year and this is one of their songs in the album (the chorus is ): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joIYo0g7HUw

Lene, the lead singer, was also one of the coaches for the Danish version of The Voice this year.

Aqua. Their albums still sound alright but Vengaboys music I find it hard to re-visit & their comeback wasn't that great.

Aqua still have that spark that made them so great for me, their last album was fantastic.

Aqua for me! their first album was pure pop cheese at its best.

Vengaboys weren't so bad but weren't exactly that different to all the other europop out there either. At least Aqua were standouts.

I liked Aqua quite a lot back in the days.
Also some of their new songs are pretty decent.

Aqua - My Mamma Said

Aqua - Playmate To Jesus

I liked Aqua when I was 8 (I remember getting their Aquarium album for Christmas that year) but looking back I think Vengaboys were better. I loved We're Going To Ibiza.

I preferred Vengaboys much more. Also, I went to a 90s bar in uni and I heard a few songs of theirs, so It brought back old memories. Aqua, I only like a couple of songs.

Up and Down, We Like To Party, Boom Boom Boom, Were going to Ibiza. All brill.

I've now got Going to Ibiza stuck in my head

Back then I would have said Vengaboys but now, with hindsight, I think I'll say Aqua

I loved both when I was younger but I still listen to Aqua to this day which answers the question!

To produce songs like Barbie Girl and Doctor Jones to songs like Aquarius and We Belong To The Sea just proves how versatile Aqua were. I love them.

Despite what one may think of the accompanying music according to taste, Aqua did actually put some thought into their lyrics and themes. In that regard, I don't really think Vengaboys could credibly have the edge. Having said that, their last hit single (as I remember) was somewhat 'darker' in tone than their usual stuff, being a blatant parable about catching VD. Can't remember what it was called but it didn't have the traditional female vocal, only a computerised voice robotically chanting about 'the way you use your joystick has really made me feel sick'

OH MY GOD!

I was listening to it and was thinking you posted it cause it was so cheesy and poorly written... but WOW! That chorus came out of left field!

I love that tune. Also think 'Turn Back Time' is one of the biggest musical shocks i've ever heard. Aqua put out loads of cheesy euro pop tunes and then release something as good as 'Turn Back Time'. Completely unexpected and a brilliant tune. Still good even now.

Vengaboys just annoy the bloody life out of me.

Aqua. Turn back time wasn't a bad song at all. Goodmorning sunshine was quite good too.

It was quite a serious song for them and I think it was used for Sliding Doors.

Aquarius - Aqua

A far cry from the Barbie Girl era and I personally consider it one of there standout tracks

Just listened to 'Like A Robot' and man.. as the reviewer on AllMusic put it

Quote:
they now sound like every other generic dance-pop outfit out there
Albeit i've only listened to this one track but I got a feeling that song sets the trend

Loved both as a kid.
I remember once singing Boom Boom Boom at home and my mother being horrified!
At the time I was confused to why she was, until a few years later I realised what the lyrics meant haha!
