So I wonder what there plan is. Will Game Station stay too or will it all be Game?

I see the latest article here says none of the closed stores will reopen:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/n...s-weekend.html

Doesn't look too promising. If anything maybe we will see more closures down the line? I think they should be rebranding all those 300+ stores to something else now as it doesn't make a strong portfolio having Game Station in one town and Game in the next one 5 miles away.

I really did expect them to get the ball running and start some major changes It' appears everything is staying same for now. Just went on to compare prices out of interest. Gears of war 3 £10-£15 cheaper . Forza 4 roughly £10 cheaper. Battlefield 3 £10 cheaper on average. Need for Speed: The Run roughly £15 cheaper. Batman: Arkham City roughly £10 cheaper.

Now the list goes on, there not going to save this company if they don't start competing, maybe they can't I don't know. I'm not saying It's directly there fault, there is many reason game is more expensive than online retailers and supermarkets especially, I just can't see this investment turning out well.

Went into GAME today, wasn't too pleased when I saw the prices, everything was about £15 dearer than it is everywhere else.

Was in Game Station today and could hardly move it was that busy. Seems all the Game customers have flocked to one store now.

Downside is the prices have gone up. A 98p game costs £4.99 now must be as it's new owners and there's no rush for a big sale.

I don't think game will ever see the error of their ways. They just cannot compete with the supermarkets or online retailers.

BTW : The Game in the Gyle shopping centre in Edinburgh remained open even though they had a sign outside stating that they would close.

More than likely, £4.99 is the new price and 98p the pre-owned price. 98p is too cheap for something that's new, by any standards.

Thought the Gyle shop had closed, but they've just moved to where Birthdays used to be.

In no way were GAME "cheap". Their used stuff was more often than not more expensive than new games from CEX or my local independent game stores.

I really couldn't care less about what you used to do. The simple fact is they were more expensive than most other places, and it seems the number of posts above which mention their prices seem to back that theory up.

Had a funny experience in the one in Rotherham about a month ago.

Took some games in there to trade in but was in a hurry, the guy serving asked me if i wanted to put the money on a gift card, which i did with the intention of going back in the morning to use it. ( i even told the guy serving me that i'd be back tomorrow).

Went back in the morning and it was gone. Shutters down, empty.

Now I've got to travel 15 miles to spend my money.

Just so annoyed with the fact you can't go in there, inquire about something, get a rip off price quoted to you and then ask 'Is there something you can do to make that price more competitive' then receiving a look from the store manager like you have just killed his first born!

You will not survive doing this!

Thank you for confirming my point about GAME being rip off merchants charging extortionate prices.

Not true.

On new titles they use to offer good offers with trade in's but it was usually cheaper in the supermarket to buy some of these games. However supermarkets don't have three walls of games do they?

There has to be somewhere on the high street for games. The VAT tax thing is sorted now anyway if you go on Play.com for example it's not even cheaper. Ebay is cheaper generally.

The point is they are much more expensive under the new owners. I imagine with less stores they can do this though. They will no doubt make money with the new rumoured smaller PS3 Slim and the new Wii U.

I was most disappointed when they closed down the local Galashiels Gamestation.

The staff were always friendly and helpful, and now, its left me with no other option for buying games locally, unless I wish to pay the often extortionate amounts that Asda/Tesco wish to charge, and even then, these stores don't have that much of a variety, and I did notice a few weeks back, Tesco were selling a pre-owned copy of Fifa 12 for £10 more than the brand new copy.

If I want a Gamestation or GAME store now I need to travel to Edinburgh, Newcastle, or Carlisle, which, from my town (incidentally not Galashiels, although the 45 minute bus ride was acceptable) is a bus ride of at least 2 hours.

The whole thing has been handled badly.

There's now 300 Game/Game Station stores under different brands. Some direct you to a Game miles away yet there's still a Game Station near by.

Plus they are all non prime location shops all the major ones have shut down.

No way can they be a big part of the high street in poor locations. All the other administrations have seen shops remain in the bigger towns and cities.

Even Lloyds has been clever and (when forced to sell off 1,000 branches to the Co-Op) has sold off mostly ex-C&G branches (which were small) rather than their main branches or the large ex-TSB branches - and that's nothing to do with the volume of customers of each branch as apparently the number of customers being moved is being 'negotiated'.

So I don't really understand why Game/GameStation closed their best location stores unless they were SO seriously in debt and had such low turnovers that the rental cost greatly outweighed all other considerations.

Locally they have one shop in Stoke on Trent City Centre (or Hanley as us true locals still call it) - it's a GameStation near to McDonalds but otherwise away from the main shopping centre. I can only assume that they might own that shop, whereas the two branches that close in the Shopping Centre were rented.
