All working fine now - except no Channel Zero services and therefore no iPlayer. It says "loading" for everything and has done for about 20 minutes so far. I presume these services are not available in this area (East Midlands). But I was too impatient when loading the software, so maybe I'm being too impatient with Channel Zero. Time will tell. Once again, huge thanks to kasg for his help above and beyond ... |

How fast is your Internet connection? It shouldn't matter where you are as it is downloading from the Internet when you first access the service.

![]() We get around 7Mbps. I've had to disconnect temporarily due to the stupid TalkTalk router only having one Ethernet socket. I didn't realise this until I arrived at my dad's yesterday. So I'll have to source another router to use as a bridge. Separate issue. I'll switch it back to the Technika box later and see what develops, but it was initially connected for over 20 minutes and all the services said "loading". |

Okay - Channel Zero has mostly downloaded (not iPlayer yet) but it thinks it's last May. Any ideas how I get it up to date? I don't really care what the weather was like last May.
![]() I checked the box's date and time and it's showing 13 July 2012 and current time. |

If you put the box into standby and wait until the red LED goes green, you'll then have BBC iPlayer showing. Chris. |

The LED in my box is a sort of yellow/green or amber depending on the angle you are looking from. At first I thought it was still red.

I noticed that the STB was rather hot underneath - then I spotted a bit of plastic film left on the side. I pulled it and removed a huge swathe of plastic which was covering the vents on the top and sides of the box. It had been operating like that for the last month. I'm amazed it worked. I'd like to say that it was my old dad's fault for not spotting the film, but the fault is entirely mine. It was such a smooth covering that I didn't notice that it was there. I'd like to shift the blame onto the manufacturers for covering all the vents with film to start with. Seems crazy to me, and I'm sure I'm not the only idiot to miss it.

Update. The notes that came with the '221' firmware say "The only connectivity that is support is Ethernet. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the set top box to your local router or use a Homeplug or Powerline solution if appropriate. There is currently no support for Wi-Fi". You can of course use a Wi-Fi client or bridge (sometimes called a "game adaptor"). I have one of my two boxes connected that way using a Fonera+ running DD-WRT firmware. |

I've recently purchased on of these boxes from my local Tesco.
There were 2 stacks of the boxes, one was £45 one was £30 there was no difference on the boxes at all but the price sticker on the shelf for the £45 one mentioned iPlayer. I noticed some of the £30 ones had marks and scuffs and little bits of the iPlayer sticker visable on the surface of the box. So I choose a £30 box which looked like the iPlayer sticker had been removed. Got it home set it up and it has software version 0225 on it and iPlayer, HW-Version 1, Build 13. So it seems to me even Tesco aren't sure which of the boxes have iPlayer on them. I can only assume there is a new batch all running 0225 with iPlayer that are the higher price. An a older batch running any Firmware from the first release right upto 0225/6. So to prevent disgruntled returns they're seling them all without stating iPlayer and its luck of the draw wether or not you get one with iPlayer on it. |

Change of box and firmware update complete
I changed my stbhdis2010hy for a stbhdis2010 today and guess what? The firmware update worked first time. I may have been unlucky or it may be to do with the HY at the end of the model but I would advise against trying to upgrade to the beta software if you have an HY model until somebody on here confirms they have been success in doing so or you may end up with a bricked box! Hope this helps someone!

I've had two STBHDIS2010 boxes for several months. I have heard that there are some with a two-letter suffix, but the sticker on the bottom of mine just shows STBHDIS2010.
The menu says the firmware version is 0161. I have read here that there are more recent versions of the firmware available like 0221 or 0226 which give iPlayer functionality. I'm not planning to use my boxes for iPlayer, but do the new firmware versions bring any other benefits that might make it worth me updating the firmware? The channel zero web site http://www.ch-zero.tv/support still seems to be listing the old 0161 firmware. Does this mean that the newer versions are still beta? Are they likely to released properly in the future or has the manufacturer dropped support for this box? |

You can perform the upgrade yourself, if you feel technically comfortable doing such things (I do and I still came unstuck) by asking someone kind on this thread to let you have a link to download it. iPlayer is the only additional feature enabled by this upgrade, though there may be a few minor bug fixes. Resident experts - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. |

0161 is a very stable software version, so I would leave your box as it is. Chris. |

Thanks. I'll just leave it as it is then for the time being (it's too far away from the router anyway).
I had just wondered if there had been any other improvements - for example it seems to take ages to change channels when you enter a 1 or 2 digit channel number. |

I have 0221 on my boxes and there is no increase in channel changing speed from 0161 at all that I can detect.
I have to agree that it is woefully slow. |
