Fixed dish on 15w and how to set LNB

My dish has just been fixed on 15w but to make sure I'm getting the best signal, can someone tell me what degree setting I should set the LNB at?

Thanks

Depends to some extent where you are.

www.dishpointer.com and your postcode will give you the skew setting.

9.9 deg for my midland postcode, 6.8 deg for Inverness

Will be somewhere in the middle of the two. To be honest it's probably easiest to tweak watching the receiver quality readings.

Find the best position for a horizontal transponder mark it, repeat for a vertical and split the difference

Ok, will try it when the monsoon stops!

Where can I find in what the strongest transponders are? Any ideas?

What is your goal transponders, there's not much on 15W.

A 'fixed' dish on 15W must be pretty rare! Mind if I ask what you are using it for?

Yeah, lol! Unless he's trying to set up a dish for his local ASDA store!

You know what I mean though - for domestic use, eg. on a house. I'm interested to know what he wants from 15W.

80cm dish but not sure about the LNB. I generally set the dish up during summer in the hope that the NFL will be on one of the frequencies on 15w, as it has been for the past umpteen years. Earth TV at the top of the hour is pretty cool.

I'm about 30miles north east of Hamilton, not far from Falkirk.

Thanks for the reply.

Dish Pointer gives 7.5 degrees skew for Falkirk, but personally if it's possible, I would just twist the LNB round a bit in the holder whilst watching the quality readings on the box.

I'll give it a try when the rain stops, which will be a few days from now according to the weather forecast.

You do have a HD receiver correct and who knows if METV has NFL rights this year.

No, I don't have an HD receiver, I use a Technomate 1500CI+ for that dish. As for the rights, I agree, who knows? But on day one I'd like to be able to see for myself.

Earth TV is encrypted, but at 5mins before they hour they show some recorded footage, then go live around 2mins before the hour. They also show other segments at 15, 30 and 45 mins past.

Did they? I was watching via that feed until late December on my SD receiver.

Luckily I have an HD receiver on another set up.

I'll make a few changes.

However, what is METV? I was watching in on what looked like a raw feed, or so I thought.

It's a Cypriot based Christian broadcaster formerly from Lebanon that targets Israel that the feed is meant for.

The switch was made in time for the playoffs. HD was a nice bonus, but the change in modulation made the signal more prone to rain fading with my 65cm dish. I had to clear snow off the LNB a couple of times during games, but you should have no problem with an 80cm dish.

There was something odd about the encoding, IIRC. Can't check just now, but maybe it was MPEG with a high bit rate, rather than H.264 (?)
