You set it how YOU like it, they are personal settings and different for everyone.

Options are.......

Professional calibration, costs £200+

DIY calibration using dedicated software.

DVD/Blu ray disc calibration like DVD Essentials.

Basic setup using THX Optimiser which can be found on THX discs like Monsters Inc/Castaway/Star Wars.

Or just twiddle with the contrast, brightness and colour.

They would most likely come out with the Vestel made sets. This is what is ruining the reputation of brands like Sharp and Toshiba. Anyway I thought we was talking about picture quality. Something that Samsung often does well on reviews.

Sharp lost any good reputation MANY years ago - the move to Vestel was a step UP in reliability.

For Toshiba it was a serious step down.

That is completely incorrect. It might be your connection or you did not hook it up to an HDMI cable, but my LG looks amazing even though its bigger than 32". I currently have an LG 47" and HD looks fantastic on it.

Does anyone actually get TVs repaired any more?

The last time a television of mine needed to be repaired was a couple of years back, required an internal fuse. Before that was back in 1993, when a Philips set's tube went (and the TV went the journey), and another Philips set's Li-Ion cells (used to store channel data) failed (and I replaced myself). It was this year that I went from being a Philips devotee to anything-but-Philips, due to the chronic unreliability of their late 80s/early 90s product.

Other than that, I haven't had a single set fail on me. But if a 32" LCD set were to fail, if I couldn't fix it myself it would go on eBay -- had enough of paying service people £75 to be told that the item is BER and that they just happen to have this 'bargain' set in their 'shop (this is referring more to the washing machine repair people, of which honest ones seem to be few and far between).

Most repairs are warranty ones, modern LCD/Plasma tend to be too expensive to repair out of warranty.
