Game

I have been to several Game stores around London and they all seem to be hiding their new games in one corner of the shop, usually the one furthest from the door. They are not marked as a new game section either and its just one tiny shelf. All their preowned games are everywhere else. Their preowned games are usually more expensive than the new ones Arkham city was £20 new in store, £25 preowned, new of course also has the DLC code too. The price on this particular game has dropped though.

It seems to be their current marketing strategy force the preowned games. Laughably there is even a huge sign now instore. "Preowned, the only difference is price" Blatantly a lie as there is wear and tear to the game and manual, and used DLC/online codes, not to mention the preowned is usually more expensive!!

Anybody else notice this trend in any game they have been in or is it just me?

Game should have disappeared off the highstreet when the going was good, but somehow they managed to survive. I don't go in so I wouldn't know about their crazy in-store layout but it does sound like they've really lost the plot.

They should stop selling new games entirely, then change their name to Oxfam

Not defending them but any money they make on preowned games is all theirs, as opposed to having to pay developers and whoever, when they sell a new game.

I can see what they're doing but the price of their preowned games is still ridiculous.

As I read somewhere else, you only go into Game to get an idea for what you're going to order online later that night.

Their 2nd hand prices have gone ridiculous again too. They will never learn and they'll be bankrupt again by November.

Lollipop chainsaw, £34.99 second hand. £29.99 brand new on Amazon.

The only problem with losing GAME et al is if they go from the high street, where else am I going to get my 'impluse' Friday purchase of a game from?

You say supermarkets, I'm still waiting for my local Sainsbury's to get Lego Batman in for example (not that I want it that desperately) - and how long has it been out?

Game Number of staff per store X hourly wage = a lot of money

Number of staff in a huge warehouse in jersey where they pay less tax X hourly wage = a lot less money

whether you like it or not stores need to charge more and selling more preowned games helps them stay in business

If you really think online prices will stay low when they have no high street competition then you are a moron

and as i've said on here before
Going shopping for a game with friends and having a fun day but paying a few quid more is much better than talking to a friends through a wall of text of facebook, clicking on a virtual basket and waiting a few days for the postman

Ordering the game online, saving money, and then having your friends over to play the game is (imho) better than going out to a packed shopping centre and paying through the nose. For example, Halo: Anniversary, £8.99 on Amazon, £25 in HMV...i don't care how much "fun" i'd have walking around a shopping centre, i'd rather save £16 thank you very much.

Game should've been left to die. They've learnt nothing and continue charging stupid prices.

What's their reasoning for not stocking it?

sold out, totally

they told me today to take a pre owned version which was the same price, if it came in tomorrow or this week, they would refund/exchange

Same supplier as HMV, I wonder? They haven't had any stock of The Simpsons season 14 DVD boxset all year. The reason? Supplier hasn't got any stock.

Also, I used to regularly shop in Gamestation, but the PC pre-owned section has gone completely.

Now you see, I'm a bit of a OCD person and I like to know what my computer is and isn't running in the background - having steam 'on' all the time is just another process hog running away in the background slowing my computer down.

I'm not slating it, I'm sure it does more good than bad, it's just me. I hate having loads of tasks running in the background controlling my pc.

If it works to stop piracy fair enough - chances are the pirated versions of the games are already available with cracks so they dont need steam running.

It's a bit like those annoying unskippable adverts at the beginning of DVD's and blu rays the old 'you wouldn't steal a car, you wouldn't steal a handbag' ones - the DVD and blu ray rips available already have this annoying thing taken out - yet the legitimate purchasers have to suffer it - anyway, going off on a different course with that one.

I'm sure Steam is fab, it's just not for me

You'd think Game would have learned their lesson about the price of their pre-owned games. It's nothing but pure greed. I mean who's gonna spend £25-£35 on a pre-owned game when you can get a brand new copy for less than that.

I notice now with a lot of their second hand stuff that requires a pass they are shoving in a card in the sleeve for the game which includes the X number of points required to purchase the in-game online pass. This makes a game like Need for Speed: The Run (for example) £27.99 second hand in GAME (with the disc prob covered in something sticky and looking like its been through a spin cycle in a washing machine and ripped manual) and £14 BRAND NEW on Amazon.

It's pot look I know, but a few of mates have manage to get codes that have not been used with rented of copies of some games from blockbuster.

Looking on there site they've learnt nothing. As predicted they would go bust the first time, I'm predicting they will go bust yet another time, II predict early next year, when fail to rake in all money from the fall.

I was in Game in Lion Walk, Colchester and found there used game prices to be ridiculous.

They had Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Olympic Games on 3DS used price 24.99, New 24.99.

Then I saw a Madcat Playstation 1 steering wheel. The used price was £24.00 but they had left the original price on the box which was £22.00.

Makes you laugh really.

I genuinly don't see the problem people have with this, they need to sell games pre owned to make more money but if the used is more than the new, then just buy the new one, problem solved

I understand that but no excuse when they charge £40 for a pre-owned COD MW when MW 2 was released a week earlier for the same price. I really thought they would have learnt their lesson but obviously not.
