Yeah...but that's Michael Pachter..

..he also predicted the Wii would sell less than 30 million units...then revised that figure to 50 million (and it's almost at 100 million)


..and also claimed Nintendo underpriced the 3DS when the $250/£230 price was announced.

He's not known for his accurate Nintendo predictions.

I don't expect wii U to sell as well as the wii...but I don't expect any home console to sell as well next gen. The market has changed thanks to both the recession and the fact the mass market now think most games shouldn't cost more than 99p.

I'd be worried if Pachter thought the Wii U would succeed. When it comes to Nintendo, he's almost always wrong.

Also, considering the Wii U Dev Kits only included a Classic Controller at the beginning, Pachter's insistence that Nintendo were forced to make one because of COD and Activision is laughable.

I just don't know why this man continues to get coverage.

look up Michael Pachter. I remember reading an article laying out loads of his predictions I would say he gets bit more right than people realise normally just little things that most could guess.

Now when it comes to Nintendo, well did not see WII redesign he predicted, and sales are about 70% more than he predicted for WII. The 3DS was supposed to sell-out and do amazing, at it's original price, contradicting his older prediction handheld's will die out.

Nintendo have a big fan base. I don't think it will convert newbies but it should do okay though. My wii is gathering dust on the shelf like most other peoples. It was a great gimmick at first but nothing beats the sheer laziness of sitting on the couch with a control pad. All that swinging about and movement is good for fun casual games but I didn't like it for serious gaming.

Sorry but in what way did the 3DS fail? Just a few days ago Nintendo said sales are expected to surpass 5 million, that is far from failure.

It does seem to be business as usual with Nintendo. It's fanbase are well catered for at the moment with a nice range of software and the upcoming 3DS XL and Wii-U but for the gamers that hated on the Wii and wanted Nintendo to change so much it looks like that's not going to happen. I'm glad about that, I love Nintendo they way they are they don't need to change anything. My Wii still see's regular use. I'm a hardcore/serious gamer and I think it's the best console I ever owned, nothing gimmicky about it.

First off Pachter is a bit of an idiot, he vociferously proclaims stuff and backtracks when he gets it wrong which is often.

I don't think the Wii U will 'flop' I do think Nintendo will make a profit on it, and it will have some great titles on it, but I do feel it will struggle commercially. I think it may be like a scenario similar to GC, some great titles and exclusives and a modest money maker for Nintendo, albeit with quite a small market share. As a console I am intrigued to play it, but I have to admit I am in no great rush to get it in the launch window (like i did with GC and Wii).

Nintendo will make a profit on it because of familys, I cant see a single person playing on it unless is a wii fit will be announced Wii U Fit

Actually there is a Wii Fit U announced but I, along with a lot of people, will be playing the Wii U because of the other games that will be released on it. Can't wait till Christmas!

Yes WiiU is fully compatible with Wii games and accessories.
No the original Wii not go dead online as it will still be sold alongside WiiU. Also as WiiU is backwards compatible the servers will still be available for the online enabled Wii games that are currently in use.

I wouldn't say the 3DS is a failure.

I'm a PS fanboy, and recently bought a 3DS mainly for Resi Evil Revelations and Mario Kart, and I'm really impressed with the console so far. Graphically it's amazing, especially with Resi Evil.

The 3D makes a nice change too. I'm glad I bought one. Prefer it over the PSP and Vita actually.

Sales in the west are not as high as they should be but its far from a failure. Look at that vita and thats a total failure everywhere.

In Japan the 3DS is king and has been for for well over a year now.

The Wii U will be fine as long as it has games. All people care about is good games. software drives hardware sales.

In Japan it will be very strong out of the gate as it has MH as launch title and Japan is crying out for a new home console. They are launching just at the right time.

In the west they will have a strong holiday season and as i said as long as the software is there 2013 will be very good.

I dont know why people continue to bet against nintendo.

Wii could have been updated like Kinect and had HD.

Playstation have a good model keeping the same controller from the PS2 ect.

People still enjoy motion gaming with Kinect. Wii U turns away from that. The touch screen is not a tablet..a boring control pad. Potential buyers would be more inclined to buy the Ipad.

I think Nintendo got this one wrong. The new Wii takes away the motion gaming idea so it's not really a wii more like a Game Cube with touch control pad.

Your right the touchscreen isnt a tablet and not should it be. Nintendo are not looking to compete against an Ipad.

I was the biggest Nintendo fan in the N64 days, however I feel Wii U will definitely fail. However I do forsee a Christmas sellout.

I'd reckon most original Wii units gather dust these days, and while the tablet/console premise has legs, I'd rather link my own tablet to my 360 than mess around with a Wii U.

Some of the stuff is cool, such as two player Mario Bros, the person with the tablet can place items to help you, etc.

I think this should have been a must for release day, big fail by nintendo. Many people just wont pay 250 quid for a HD console that most already have in the form of PS3 and xbox, even the handheld thingy is just a novelty, many will wait until after xmas when they knock 100 quid off the unit or when nintendo get around to releasing some decent games. I mean these side scrolling mario games appear every year and I bet this is just a clone of the one they released on the 3DS some months back.

NSMB outsold Mario Galaxy massivly on the Wii. NSMB is the bigger title and more popular title so it makes more sense to launch with that rather than a 3D Mario game.

Also NSMB games do not appear every year at all. The original DS game was released in 2006. The wii version 2009. NSMB 2 on the 3DS and Wii U 2012.

The Wii U game pad is more like a modern version if the Dreamcast controller IMHO.
